Re: jd420 pics

My 420-c was 12-volt when I got it, so I assume that is whats needed and it turns mine fine.

Re: 420-c loader

Summer came and went here,---- never got the motor out to see what the clutch needs yet. Hope to drag it down the road to the neighbors shop this winter and work on it there. Shouldn't take long to get the motor out. Then see what the clutch needs and see if Lavoy has the parts! LOL!

Re: Cracked housing repair

I have brazed castings of all kinds! Piece of cake to do! Pre-heating works best then go from there, cool slowly if possible helps too.

Re: jd420 pics

Dwell meter wont work on 2 cylinder motors! --- only 4 - 6- or 8! Regular timing light works on all.

Re: Size

The seat that came on mine dont work either,--needs to be farther back for me. I am 6' and 190 so need a LOT more leg room. Going to try a smaller flatter seat on mine,--maybe an old Allis steel pan seat with the back on it.

Re: jd420 pics

are you going the right direction, and when you heated it up did you douse it with USED motor oil??? That has gotten many parts loose for me! GOTTA be USED oil! LOL! Try it a couple times and see if that will help you. Heat, oil, heat, beat, repeat!

Re: jd420 pics

Too much traction is worse than not enough!! LOL!! I know it sounds crazy BUT that is the way it works on crawler loaders! --- all I ever been around had the low bar type on them. I also have a IH 250c with 4-1 bucket on it and it also has low bar tracks on it! I figure they had a good reason for do...

Re: jd420 pics

For loader use use ONLY street pads! You need to be able to skid easy PLUS you need some slip to let the hydraulics work when filling the bucket! Tall bars are murder on undercarriages and add a loader would be major problem steering. A friend of mine found out that the hard way and had to go back t...

Re: 420-c loader

He gave me some big thick books with the loader. Parts book gives a great idea of whats in there. The motor in this one looks to have been thru a machine shops hot tank cause the paint is gone off the block and head. Still paint on covers, pan, water pump, etc. plus it starts first piston up every tim...

Re: 420-c loader

Wonder if my clutch was scattered when the guy I got it from got it? He may have found that out and thats why he sold it to me cause he didnt want to get dirty hands working on it! LOL! Anyway I gotta start diggin into it and see what's up in there! I have a ton of use for this loader so whatever I ...

Re: 420-c loader

https://i.imgur.com/5lOb9F2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hQnWF2m.jpg a couple pix of the 420. Got the motor running decent but now the clutch is stuck,--cant shift into any gear. clutch also makes a loud noise when you push it all the way down. I assume the motor has to be taken out to even see the clut...
