Thanks to both who responded, always a good thing to know what others have run across. i have not tried a different position on the switch yet, but i will. i just give a complete tune up last year, but of course that doesnt mean it wont help me out. at a standstill now until i fix or replace my star...

Lavoy, i just have a hard time believing anyone would pay $200 for a back plate on a starter. i welded mine up, its just cast iron. too many other old starters laying about and could find something that would work.found a couple old starters laying around, one out of 50`s something jeep and another ...

we dont have much for local rebuilds, IF, he could get to it, could be quite a wait. next nearest town, virginia, is 80 miles away. the price for time and gas would probably be a wash i`m thinking compared to shipping charges. this starter will need a complete and total rebuild. it was getting prett...

i was working on the 420c, adjusting the track alignment, running it in the driveway, nice and flat suface. right before i shut it down, i smelled a little gas. now it wont start. i`ve taken the carb apart, just rebuilt it last year, cleaned everything up and looks fine. cleaned the sediment bowl. c...
