Thank you Jim B.! I appreciate the information and insights. I have a technical manual for the 550, but have found it to be lacking as far as details around repairs. I'll check out the other info sources you mention. Thanks again.

I have a 1979ish JD 550 crawler, type 4276TT 01, serial #506373T. I have removed the head and believe i may need to replace. I'm taking it to a machine shop to determine if the old one is too far gone. Anyway, there are 3 numbers in the head cast (R50790; R54560; R57078). Anyone know what these numb...
