Transmission querk

So folks I have a 450C crawler dozer. I've had it for 4 yrs and put roughly 1200 hrs on it building trails and ponds for a couple neighbors with lots of money. This is in the high Rockies working in heavy dark timber and some slopes that are pretty rank. My issue is 3rd gear. I never try to use it u...

Re: Track pins

So it is that the bottom pin on the right skewed my whole dozer. I spun the blade around to center and picked it up with the loader til I got the pin back in and bolted up. Looking at the tractor from the front and everything was just "off" to the right. I loosened the big bolts on the frame rails t...

Re: Belt and C frame pin.

Thank you, when I put the new belt on I discovered that I have the spring loaded shaft that I simply had to pry back to get the belt on as opposed to the direct drive shaft that has 4 bolts that are a bitch to get off. I must not have the right alignment. Ill be on that shortly. I didn't even think ...

Re: Belt and C frame pin.

So I took the belt off and spun the fan slowly both directions. I had zero uniformity - no 2 blades cleared the same. I checked the shafts/pulleys for play or wobble and everything spun like it should. I took the top radiator hose off which made getting the new fan in much easier. I got it in and se...

Re: Belt and C frame pin.

No I took a video of taking it apart so I could look at it before I put it back together. I'm taking it back off and I'm going to check water pump, alternator shafts to make sure they aren't bent or pulleys are cockeyed. The alternator and water pump were new last year. John Deere guy might be up th...

Belt and C frame pin.

Howdy folks, I have a later model 450C crawler dozer. I had an issue last winter where the hood fell into the fan. After 2 tries I got a fan that was bent in the mail so they sent another from the vintage warehouse in Milan IL. I got it into position only to find it was 1/2" too big. It would've hit...

Re: Track pins

Be very careful of getting down into an un-shored pit, with or without a crawler straddling it. A soil slip could be fatal. So Jim, it turns out this pin is from the lower part of the draw works on the right hand side. I think Ill jack that arm up and drive it in with mash hammer and put a new keep...

Re: Track pins

Thanks Jim. I'm gonna dig a pit tomorrow so I can walk under it, ya know like them fancy pits rich folks have, just without the fancy lighting and rolling collection bin, or concrete walls and go over every inch of my old girl til I get this sorted out. Running it around the yard, turning left and r...

Track pins

Good Day Gentlemen Today's issue is I had a pin fall out of my tractor and can't figure out where it came from. Its 5 1/2" x 2" and has a 3/4" hole towards the and and it threaded on the end. The end that's threaded still has yellow paint on it, I've been under it but can't find a hole anywhere. Wei...

Re: Fan

When it warms up a bit I'm going to take this one off and get sn and get more info to replace it. I don't do much outside when its below 0. I have read about the different fans for this tractor, I gave the sn to the parts chick down on the front range and she said it was definitely the fan she has i...

Fan

If anyone has a 6 blade fan for a 450C that they would part with, let me know. 4 Rivers wants 325.00 and shipping is about 100.00 from vintage parts warehouse in Milan, IL to the front range. Then I have to drive 3 1/2 hrs to Erie,Co to pick it up. I'm trying to cut a few corners here. Thanks!

Re: Fuel delivery

You are a pretty handy fella to know young man. I appreciate your time and effort. I've been thinking of rebuilding the pump. It kinda seeps and its gnarly to look at. Is there anyone you recommend to send it out to? My Deere dealer had a really good mechanic that grew up on a farm and actually owne...

Re: Fuel delivery

Yessir I changed that filter and changed out with a car quest replacement filter. I damn well should've waited and put a real oem John Deere filter on. My Deere dealer is 80 MI away and keep hours like the bank. So they're closed weekends. I was in a hurry and got that filter from Advanced. I know b...
