Re: JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
About to close this one out. Thank you Jim and Stan for your inputs. Yes, I had checked out the tank vent line initially, had to dig it out with wire at the bottom end and blast with air. Regarding the subject line problem, yes (surprise) it appears the fuel injection pump was in need of a rebuild w...

Re: JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
Jim, I did get a local quote for rebuilding the pump several months ago and it was over $1k, if I'm remembering right. That was when I started wondering how difficult can this be... But I agree with your point completely. Jug, I would like the info for this online rebuild option if you have it. With...

Re: JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
Thank you Jim. I'll try loosing the timing cover plate and see if it runs. I remember last winter I had opened that plate and saw at least 2 "mouse turds" in there with the fuel that drained out. When it still idled then, I thought I was ok, but now that the problem is worse perhaps it's time for a ...

Re: JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
Same problem with new (cheap) injectors and charged batteries. It starts off running fine but dies shortly. Every attempt to start after this, it starts and runs for a shorter time. The longer it sets the longer it will run, but no more than 10 seconds total. Any attempt to increase rpms and it dies...

Re: JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
Thanks Jim, I'm recharging batteries for another go. I will rebleed; I'll need to anyway since I've disconnected the injectors again, after noticing some fine particulate rusty fuel coming out of the return line at the injector. I'm starting to think I may not have been thorough in cleaning the last...

JD 450C - Won't start after fuel system work
After replacement of an injector and parts of the lines, changing both engine fuel filter and tank filter, draining, cleaning and refilling the fuel tank, I've bled the system and have been cranking it over. At first it ran for maybe 30 sec then died. Running time lessened with each attempt after. N...

Re: JD 450C General cooling system info
Thanks very much for this info. Ok, I will keep the 180 stat. I already have the POAT coolant on hand, but good to know that green is acceptable. My thought exactly, I was planning to add some more flush and just fill up with water for testing. Rad cap, check. So this coolant loss is a known problem...

JD 450C General cooling system info
Some various questions as I move on to addressing the coolant system next, as part of my quest to get the old crawler running again. Would appreciate any feedback. First, what type coolant to use for this engine? The former owner used green, but I'm planning to put in Final Charge Pro Series (POAT t...

Re: JD 450C compression leak/smoke puffing out injector area
Sure enough, the lower seal on the problem injector mentioned earlier was half gone. 1 of 4 inj did not survive extraction. I tried to break apart and remove the upper seal to spray lube down the bore; can't tell if any difference was made. In the end, much effort was required and the inj was destro...

Thanks for this info.
Not sure when I'll be able to attempt this, but I'll post an update to follow up.

Re: JD 450C compression leak/smoke puffing out injector area
Thanks very much for your response. It's good to have some confirmation as I'm not very knowledgeable with this subject. It looks like I'll have to try to come up with a means of pulling them without damaging them, if possible...would prefer not to pay several hundred for a 1 time use tool, but don'...

JD 450C compression leak/smoke puffing out injector area
Greetings. New to forum...and heavy equipment/diesels in general. JD crawler 450C Serial 285496T I am trying to get an old crawler working again for some road repairs. Unfortunately, it has not been well maintained; in fact was abandoned for years. Upon starting it up late last year (first time in s...
