I don't like to use ether. I think the engines get addicted to starting fluid and won't start unless you give them a snort. (that's another post though). However, growing up in Northern Maine (my dad also anti-ether) we used a propane torch if the tractor did not have a plug in. Pop loose the top of...

JD 440 Steering Clutch Troubleshoot Question

I was pushing some dirt yesterday on a slight incline and after an hour or so the tractor started to gradually not want to steer left or right it would go forward and reverse no problem then intermittently would not want to turn either direction then it would. I checked the steering play and it seem...

Wow!! You got a lot of work ahead of you. I would have to think the loader would be interchangeable as is but some of the drive line stuff wont match up. I read the gas stuff was not as heavy as the diesel parts. Lavoy would probably be able to be specific on each item off the cuff. The track is the...

I was told stories when I was a kid that they used to leave kerosene in the radiator with a loose cap in the winter as coolent. That was in northern Maine.

Need some parts JD440 ICD

Lavoy, I was working my girl this weekend and I think I am in need of an exhaust manifold gasket. I was geeting as mush exhaust out the stack as from under the hood. I am still in need of some good track rails with pins and bushings if there are some out there for under $1000. http://www.jdcrawlers....

My girl may need some paint and perhaps a few cosmetic touches, however paint and cosmetics wont make her push dirt any better than she does now!! Hopefully when I get her new house built I can buy her a new dress with matching shoes. (actually new dancing shoes may be sooner than later. Half the pi...

I adjusted mine with a screw driver a 1/2 inch socket and speed wrench. I followed these easy instructions and with the help of a small prybar to loosen up the throwout it worked very smooth. So easy in fact I thoght I had broken something or not done it properly. However it works fine and steers li...

12 Volt Positive Ground

Brad,

What page of the ICD Manual you find that on? The Service Manual I bought from you is for the Gas model spark ignition and only talks about the 6 Volt Positve Ground? If you actually have a Manual for the ICD you only sold me the Owners and Parts can you send the service manual for the ICD?

I got mine all on digits from BKahler he is listed here on the site. The reverser is like having an additional clutch the main clutch (foot pedal) and the reveser clutch packs (front and rear) The word is use the foot clutch when sifting the reveser into forward or reverse even though you can shift ...

The 440IC Tractors (Gas) are supposed to be 6 Volt postive ground. My Owners Manual for the 440ICD states 12 Volt but nothing about positive ground. However you should check your electrical system for any modifications or conversions to 12 Volt. If the starter was wired wrong i.e. causing it to spin...
