Last night I was thinking of an H frame so I could get my engine lift in to remove heavy parts. That or make the frame high enough to let the lift go under it. The outside frame, as you have, would allow easier track work. The engine lift is the only thing I have to work with so it needs to be able ...

Lavoy, about that frame holding the tractor. How about some details?? I have at least 2 I'm going to work on and if I can get the 3rd one past the wife   ?? The 420 has had pieces welded on the end of the bars, no holes now, so I think I would want to go with saddles instead. Also the 40 d...

And then the light came on....

I removed the loader from my 420 and backed it into the shop. Crawled under it and removed the loader frame. While doing so, ate a lot of dirt. Then the light came on   ....Why the H*** didn't I wash it first!!!!!  Question: Any place the high pressure washer SHOULDN'T be ...

Yanmar crawler

Well, sort of. I have a Yanmar excavator, 6000lb size, mid 90's production. I hope someone is familiar with these things as I have had it about 6 mos and have a couple of questions. The guy I got it from, part time dealer, didn't have a clue. There is a small valve in the cooling system with a line ...

Removing tracks

How much should the tracks be loosened before removing?? I did a search but could not find the information. How much sag before there is no spring tension?

When reinstalling, how much sag? I don't have a manual yet. Sorry if this is an old subject.

Ifandwhen I get this 420 up and running it is planned as my snow pusher. It will be stored in my heated shop for the most part. How much of a problem am I looking at when I bring a very cold, wet machine back into a heated shop??

Dumb question of the week.

First off let me say I'm green when it comes to these crawlers. But I do have a question that might qualify for dumb of the week. The most common problem I see seems to be the steering clutches binding up. This seems to be from moisture for the most part. If I'm understanding it correctly, they swel...

The 420 project is about to start

The 420 has a cracked tranny case. First to remove the loader. That puppy was heavier than I thought it would be. Note the back of the excavator is off the ground. It was only held on by 4 bolts and 2 pins. 20 minutes and it was on the ground. 15 of those were inching it off without tearing up any t...

I have a complete 40 wheel tractor transmission and the junk yard will give me $100 trade in for the case I need (case only for my 420). I was hoping the case would work, but it does not. I'm debating the trade in. I also have a 40C and if I needed gears later on, I would probably pay more than that...

420 transmission case

My tractor has a cracked case (I bought it knowing that). The case has been ground and welded. Ground right through the casting number. The only thing I can read is the first letter, M3. The junk yard has a case but I don't have their casting number yet. My tractor is a first year, 91,000 seri...

3 pt

It's not looking good for finding a 3 pt so it's looking like I'll build one. I have the metal working equipment to do it, but I need some demesions. I cannot seem to find one in this area to look at/measure/photo.

Is there some place I can get good photos or drawings of a 3 pt?

The 40 may still have new life :D I just found a tranny case at a local (70 miles) tractor junk yard for less than $400.00 for the 420. It looks like I won't be junking the 40 for parts.
