Re: JD MC 40C 420C ?

If the tracks are shot, scrap value less 10%. Probably a lot of other things badly worn too.
Personally, I would only look at 420 or newer.

Re: 1010c Rebuild thread

Several, thrust bearing was shot, bearing retainer was moving, retainer roll pin was sheared off. Keep in mind, my reverser is manual gear shift, not hydraulic. Yours is likely very different but subject to different potential problems. There's pretty regular questions regarding them posted here.

Re: 1010c Rebuild thread

If it has a reverser, I would definitely check it out completely. That was a check that definitely saved my butt from a major problem.

Re: 1010c Rebuild thread

When I opened the rear cover on my 420 and started cleaning around the ring/pinion gears I heard a clunk in the drain pan. I thought there's no clunk in oil! Then another and another and another.... there were 2 bolts still holding the ring gear on and one was loose. Same in about every place I open...

Re: 40c Roller interference

Personally, I would look for a good side frame. It will be aligned and spaced exactly right.

Did you look or feel for other holes? Might be another set ahead more.

Re: 1952 MC crawler

I did have a starter jam once, but it was winter and cold. I put it it gear and bumped it. It came loose and started on the next try.

Can you see that if you pull the top cover?

Re: 420C PTO Issues

Not sure where your damage is. The PTO is a simple bolt on part. My tractor had a flat plate there, removed it and bolted on the pto. I would suggest just removing it to see whether there's and transmission damage or it's totally in the PTO. Complete bearing failure??

Re: 440IC 831 Project

Had something like that on the excavator mulcher head. But it was a big Allen wrench which eventually failed. Ended up welding 3/4" nut on it. The heat from the welding actually did it. It came out easily.

Spring run

Decided to try starting the 420. Not quite enough battery to get it going. Got out the extension cord and charger. About 30 minutes and it fired right up. Last fall i changed oil in everything except hydraulics. This was the first run on it. I took it up the hill to push some mud that didn't need mo...

Re: Track carrier / cross bar wear

Wear is most certainly on the bottom. Not a great fix, but weld the area, grind back to fit with a hand die grinder. Use a piece of sized material to get a fit. Rotate the shaft to move the wear area.

Likely very hard to find any machine shop to sleeve it.

Re: No master link pin in track ???

Remove the 2 adjoining track plates. Much easier to work on it.
