Whoa boy...

Dove hunting this morning and in the field sits '56 chevy 2 ton truck with a well used 420 sitting on it. A bit later the owner drives up and we bs a bit. He says "he has to drain the oil out of the finals". He gets under and pulls the plugs and a fair amount of black oil runs out of the clutch hous...

Water, how?

I rebuilt the 420 about 4-5 years ago and it might have 60 hours since. I decided to change the gear oil. Dropped the finals and the oil was dirty but OK. Dropped the tranny yesterday and got milky oil. The engine oil is still pretty clean on the dipstick, minor coloring.

not clutches, turned out to be a loose bearing cap on the outside of the clutch shaft. I hope no damage as it was driven for at least an hour that way.
