Thanks guys for the advice. Collectively the options are great. I just caught wind of a Cat D2 5U wide track with a blade in the front and a PTO in the back. Very similar in size to the 420 but the Cats tend to have a short overall track length compared to the 420 which makes pushing dirt a little t...

Is it time to scrap / part it?

I have a 1957 JD 420c with a blade in front and a winch on the back. Over the years it's served me well but I think I'm now headed for major $. Last year I broke a couple of links and in the process of replacing got a good look at the under carriage. The chain when removed was like a snake on the gr...

The 420c is located in Diamond Springs, CA. 2 miles from Placerville.

What are you asking per link? How much do the weigh?

Thanks,

Wanted: a couple of chain links

1957 420c crawler (2 bolt grouser) I broke a link on my chain and upon closer inspection the bushing is fairly shot. I'm looking for a couple of used replacement links. Based on a conversation I had with Lavoy I could weld in some metal but with the bushing being shot I think it would be best to rep...

Just to close the loop on this thread. I put fresh plugs, points and condenser in the beast and can't believe the difference.

I'm able to drive around in second gear without a problem when before it would bog down and I had to revert to 1st. :D

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Great information

Thanks all for sharing your JD experiences. I'm going to start with the tune up and see what that gets me but I'm sure the carb will be close behind based on the sediment I found in the glass bowl. I'm also going to check out the governer linkage. Broke the generator fan belt this weekend so I'm cha...

Thanks Lavoy. I'm with you on the suggestions. I have the tune up parts and will start with that and a compression check.

Newbie with a 420c - Power Question

Purchased a 420c on ebay about a month ago. Still goes against my better judgment buying something without getting a close look but I asked a lot of questions, felt comfortable with the answers and it turned out ok. Now that I've had a chance to use it a couple of times I'm wondering about the power...
