I found the master pin. It was marked by a ridge around the perimeter of the pin in an odd way. It is hard to describe, but basically it just looked different then the others, but barely. Now to get it out. I foresee a lot of pounding in the near future. Do you guys leave the track pads on, or remov...

Oh I forgot to say, I had a great conversation with PondHogVT today and it seems as if he can get me an idler for this machine.

I am thinking I might have to talk to the previous owner who put the track together after rebuilding everything. He said something about having a hard time lining up the pin, and nothing about bolting the track pad together to hold it, BUT this is coming third hand; my father is really good friends ...

Powerwashed the right side tracks impeccably and absolutely no dimple. I even moved the machine ahead and back checking off pins with chalk as I went. The only thing I remotely see was on one pin some ever so slight concentric circles...like the rings on a tree, but it is ever so slight. I would thi...

Just did a lot of checking and still see no dimple. I'll keep looking. :-( I did find out it is an aftermarket tracked called VTrack (Valuepart) which says on their website they have two piece links, but I am not sure if they mean EVERY track chain they produce has two piece links or just certain mo...

I have a stupid question, well many of them actually. I have a John Deere manual for this crawler and it shows it has a master link, yet I cannot find one anywhere. I know this has brand new aftermarket tracks so is it possible there is not a master link per se for these particular set of tracks? To...

Maybe you are THE ONE! :-) Everyone and his brother keeps telling me there is a John Deere bulldozer scrap yard somewhere in Vermont with tons of John Deere parts. This obvious appeals to me because we have a house in New Hampshire not far from the Vermont border. (Lisbon New Hampshire). In fact my ...

Still more progress on my field though in doing so I found some more rocks! It rained like the blue blazes last night so I put on my 6 foot grader blade to help out a few problem spots. The biggest issue was where I came together when I plowed. I just go around in circles so when I meet up in the mi...

My first moving violation was Operating a Bulldozer across Paved Way; it is against the law here and I knew it, but who would have though the Deputy Sheriff would stop some farm kid at 10 years old for the offense? Some people I tell you; like we don't pay taxes on both sides of the road to help pay...

Hey thanks TigerHaze. I found it last night and tried an aftermarket parts guy with no luck, the John Deere themselves. They can get it, but not just the front idler, but the entire assembly. $800. :-(

I did pretty good today. 4 Days to plow those 10 acres, two days to get all the rocks out, then today I graded it. I won't lie and say it is completely graded because its not, I got some more to do, but it is getting a lot smoother. Now keep in mind I am using what I got, so I tried dragging a 24 fo...

Broken Front Idler

So much for my rebuilt tracks lasting for awhile. I have been working it pretty hard and sometime over at that rock-infested Christian Camp that I volunteered my dozer for, it shattered the front idler. About half the flange on both sides of the center rib is completely broken away! I have a service...

I am constantly fighting off the scrappers here when the price of steel gets high. They think just because it is old and rusty that it never gets used; well not on a sheep farm. It is funny how Lavoy was mentioning how moldboard plows are making a comeback. I watched a video on Youbube about compact...

Brings back memories...a John Deere 1010 for me back when I was ten and logging.
