Re: 450B

It is good the pads and grousers look good, but the condition of the chains, rolls, idlers, and sprockets are more important in determining the amount of wear, life remaining, and how well the tracks will stay on, in my opinion. Is any grease visible around the adjuster on the track that is slack? T...

Re: 450B

B = 6410 outside blade T = John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works (build location) When you say the tracks look good, are you referring to how the pads and grousers look? I would expect the chains to be worn it the sprockets are worn. How close to the ends of the track frames are the idler brackets? Stan ...

Have you set up an account for the server with Lavoy? It is not tied to your log in here.

Re: 450C crawler bucket cylinder steel line AT31954

Bruce has a good, commonly used fix. I've also seen brazing, TIG, or MIG used, depending on processes available and skill levels. As for getting a new tube, one way would be if you can find an industrial hydraulic shop that deals in process tubing such as used in mills, power plants, etc.; they shou...

Suppose the drive hung in and took the starter way, way overspeed? That will mess a starter up bad, in a hurry.

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...

Some oil burning heating systems do have excess fuel return lines, just not as common. You need one port for the fill pipe and the second will handle the vent, whistle and gauge using a combination unit like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Beckett-King-Fill-Alarm-and-Gauge-14525P/202312890?MERCH=RE...

Re: 40c clutch ajusted but

Good to hear you found the problem and got it repaired. Its always nice to know what solved a problem and it completes the post, doesn't leave folks wondering if it got fixed.
Best regards,

Jim

Re: 40C coolant leak

You say you saw steam from under the tin. I would locate the source of the steam to see where it was coming from and if the spot could be repaired, before just dumping a sealer in to it. It might require removing the tin and running it a bit. You might get a radiator pressure tester and test for a l...

Re: 450C won't go into low or reverse

Welcome to the board. Just so you know this post will likely get moved to the late model board. That is where the 350s, 450s, and later models belong. The hydraulic reservoir is the tank under the right armrest. The transmission oil reservoir is the case of the transmission. Totally separate systems...

Re: 450C near death accident

As bad as it was I'm glad to hear it was not worse than it was and that you are on the road to recovery. Your post is a good reminder for all to check, that the linkage for the HLR lever is adjusted by the book, and that the safety lock for HLR neutral is working. I regularly lock mine and try movin...

Re: 40c clutch ajusted but

I can not say for certain, but that felt washer may go up on the shoulder that the throwout bearing stops against, I don't think it affects the position of the throwout bearing, just helped contain grease in the bearing. It wouldn't seem right that a compressible material would be used for spacing. ...

Re: Help issue with JD 350 B

They were known to get loose, separate some, then strip the coupling and shafts as original possum posted; and it sounds like you can see that separation. Since you can see it is separated some, you know where you need to head to start repairs, adjustment and pressure checks will come after it is ba...

Re: 40c clutch ajusted but

I don't have the service/shop manual for a 40 but I looked at the John Deere on line parts book (PC862) and there is no shim behind the main (engine) clutch throw out bearing. There is a felt washer (item key # 12) behind the throwout bearing. The felt washer also shows up behind the throwout bearin...

Re: 40c clutch ajusted but

Welcome to the board. I'm surprised someone hasn't responded on any thing for you yet. I'll ask a few questions for background that might stir other responses for you. It sounds like you have some things out of place or way out of adjustment. Do you have the 40 service manual # SM2013 and a copy of ...
