I was debating rebuilding my engine myself at one point, and I remember seeing some engine sleeve/rebuild kits for around $1000.
If you can't do it yourself, pay a shop to rebuild yours.

My 2 cents..... 8)

Lavoy, Did you mean:
The wear is 1/8" per link, four links equals 1/2".
OR
The wear is 1/4" per link, four links equals 1".

Thanks :)

To weld the casting it will need to be preheated completely (usually done in a bed of heated sand) then allowed to cool in the same bed od sand. I beleive it also requires the use of nickel (high nickel content) welding rods. The casting will have to come off to do this. So, if the casting has to co...

Lavoy you are correct, it is a 440. Sorry. I guess I'll wait until I get the parts diagram before I try and figure out if this thing had a reverser or not, and if I can put one on it.
Thanks!

Torque Tube? Reverser?

The side of my torque tube is missing something. I have a place on the dash cowling for a reverser handle, and it looks like there may have been one there at one time, but the there are two gapping holes in the side of the torque tube and about 10 bolts screwed in slightly. Do these holes have somet...

1959 440IC Oil Type

I have not gotten a manual yet for this machine and I would like to change the engine oil.
What kind does it take?
What goes in the rear end?

Stretch,
I managed to weld the part back together. (Turned out to be steel) This buys me enough time to order one in if they don't have it in stock.

Thanks!

Thank you for the post Tigerhaze, I could not figure out how to put the image up here.... I'd also like to mention, the engine is green, the bell housing is yellow, the torque tube is green and the rear end is yellow. Seems to me I've got a little bit of several. Are there numbers on the engine that...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Starter Drive Issue

Well, I washed off the new machine to get a better idea of what all I need to do to it, and now the starter wont crank over. I thought the battery was dead so I put a booster pack on it and still nothing. Let it dry out for 24hrs and tried again. Still nothing.....tested the solenoid and it is worki...

Ok,
The tag reads 440 I C (the I&C are stamped through the tag)
The serial number is 452063.

How tough is it to find a used engine to fit this crawler? I'd like to rebuild one to install.

JD 440 Gas Newbie!

:D Ok everybody, I have just joined the club of JD Crawler Owners! Very Exciting! Yesterday I drove to LA from TN and picked up a 1958? JD 440. I've never owned a crawler before, and know little about them. First off, I need to know where the Data Plate and Serial Plate are? She has the manual blade...
