Re: New Shirt

There is a lot of info readily available on the web about both copyrights and trademarks, too much to post here. Trademark rights may be the bigger issue here using logos. The Deere logos used over the years would be trademarks and legally protected. They have even won trademark/copyright lawsuits a...

Re: Stabilizer cylinder seal assembly help

Hi All,
Good to hear you are all set with that, sorry to hear about the health issues. That has bit many people with slow recovery. Hope things work out for you with the sale of your house.

Re: Stabilizer cylinder seal assembly help

Good morning, To be sure of the gland direction, the threaded end of the gland is outside the barrel with a gland nut holding the gland out against the internal snap ring (not the one you just purchased), correct? If that is correct, the open side of the gland packing rings should face away from tho...

Re: Track Adjuster Fitting Question

Is this your crawler? Rebuilding or replacing a bad adjuster? Another question, is this a John Deere adjuster tube or aftermarket? About anything is possible if it is aftermarket. Some have the fittings hidden inside a pipe coupling welded to the tube, with a plug covering them. Most track adjusters...

Re: Newbie to crawlers

Welcome to the Site. I had a 430C and it was a great crawler. It had the wet clutch reverser (handle on the left side). If the one you look at has a reverser be sure you use the clutch with it, they are not "clutch less" reversers. Lavoy, owner and provider of this site, works on and sells parts for...

Re: John Deere 555A - Low Engine/Transmission Pressure - 200 Hours on Engine

Do you have the technical manual (TM1292) for it? I would suggest getting some good mechanical gauges of the proper ranges and checking to see if the gauges on the 555A are accurate. I believe the manual will give you recommended gauge ranges for testing and the procedures for testing the engine and...

Re: JD 440 IC

If you let grease out and loosened the track, I don't see it tightening on its own. If you were working in material that can pack in the chains, I can see it appearing tight from a buildup. The other remote thought I had would be the track being over tight that the spring behind the adjuster was stu...

Re: JD 440 IC

Just to clarify, track adjustment and steering adjustment are two entirely different things. You said you loosened the left track and now it is tight again. Do your tracks have the threaded rods to move the idlers or hydraulic adjusters you use a grease gun to tighten the tracks or open a release sc...

Re: 450 B or C

Both the Operator's and Technical manuals have the adjustment procedure. You will need to check you 450B to see if it has dry or wet steering clutches as in 1975, they started building 450Cs. The Cs have wet steering clutches and somewhere along the way Bs got them too as the dry clutch parts ran ou...

Re: 450 B or C

450B with a 6405 blade (C is for the blade type), serial number is a 1975. T means it was built in Dubuque.

Lavoy can likely get you the correct manuals (operator's manual will have the general service info) for it through his store if you email him (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com.

Re: JD350 (straight) Lift Pump Pressure

Welcome to the Board. Don't be surprised if you find your post on the Late Models Board when you look for it. The 350 a models built after their production started are covered on that board. A moderator will likely move it over there when they see it. The specs for the pumps used on a 450B (many oth...

Re: '57 420w Dual Stage Clutch Alignment Tool

Have one made. You can measure the shafts on the transmission to get the length needed for each diameter step. The pilot bearing end of the shaft diameter is easy to get. You don't need the splines on the other two steps for the discs, just the diameters at the inside of the splines. It doesn't need...

Re: 440ic trans problems

In every gear, except first gear, when you turn the PTO shaft, with it in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear; the engine will turn. The PTO shaft turns but it will not turn the engine when in 1st gear. Am I understanding correctly now? When you had the cover off did you try moving the 1st sliding gear into its d...

Re: 440ic trans problems

You are correct gus, I read it wrong. My apologies to BCRAWLIN. If it is a four-speed, 1st and 4th are shifted by the same fork. If it is a 5 speed, 1st and 5th are shifted by the same fork. The service manual should show the power flow through the gears for each speed. To diagnose you will need to ...

Re: 440ic trans problems

I would lean towards the engine clutch, if the reverser is properly snapping in. The engine clutch drives the reverser. To me seems unlikely you lost both reverser clutches at the same time. Engine clutch is my first thought followed by a broken shaft or stripped coupling somewhere between the engin...
