If you don't have movement in the transmission... it's good and bad news. Good news is it is in front end (clutch or driveshaft issue); bad news is you'll have to pull the engine to do any of the repair. I don't think there is anywhere you can peep at it.. nor does it matter. You'll have to pull the...

Gas Cap - short vs. tall

I know there are two types of gas caps and was wondering what the big diffrence in the two is. My crawler should have a tall cap ( I think ) and from what I could tell from the parts manual, the tall cap is for tractors that do not have a vent from the top of the tank. I don't have the top vent and ...

420 Side Frames

Working on my 420 today and I had to reinstall the left side frame. The real trick was getting it low enough in the back to get on to the steering clutch housing and then trying to get it arround the bottom of the bell housing. (It interfears on lower corners of the frame.) My question is what have ...

That was a major concern of mine and the rod I chose should be better than standard all thread. I can't remember the specifics but I know I ended up paying twice as much.

420 Tensioner Parts

As I'm sure anyone that has tried to find tensioner parts has found, Mother Deere has obsoleted most of them. I'll add pictures of the complete tensioners in the next few days but for now, the two parts that are hardest to come up with. I had tensioner nuts made from 2" hex stock to duplicate the or...

420 Final Drive Assembly

I'm finally getting arround to posting a few pictures of rebuilding my final a few weeks ago. After dragging this project out for over a year now.. it looks like it'll be moving again in the next week or two. First is a picture of the bottom cover that had to be repaired where at some point the bull...

I have no experience with 350's .. but does it get used often and used enough to get all the cases and fluids warm? It could be condensation collecting as the castings 'sweat'. I dunno..

Joe- When the clutches and brakes for steering are adjusted correctly, the crawler will turn with out and excessive amount of input. I wrestled mine when I first got it and then decided to take the one side apart that didn't do as well as the other. Well.. needless to say after getting one side put ...

Just be glad it's in the shed. I normally get calls when the tractor is about a half mile from the road down in a bottom.. and rain is forecasted for the next 3 days...

You'll get it figured out though..

I've got a '57 420C with #61 blade that was at one point (I'm almost positive) left in a swamp to rot. It was a basket case but I've learned alot through the ...

Rick-

It's funny how you find out your electricals aren't up to par. I had a very similar experience with my 420 after I put a new wiring harness on it, added gauges, etc and put it back as 6v Pos Ground.
