You Opinion on if 420 has enough power for this.

I have a chance to buy this. Will a 420 have enough power for this? It weights quite a bit. I can also cut the front two teeth off and just use the back three. I have been using it and it seems to push the 420 pretty hard -- I have to pull in 1st gear -- it cuts and works but when I'm backing and tu...

What synthetic oil to use (what grade)

What synthetic weight should I use for the 420 oil, transmission, and the finals?

Copies of service manuals on eBay

There are a number of folks who claim that the copyright for the older John Deere manuals have run out and they are selling reproductions for xxx amount of money. Does this make sense to ya'll - I know that an initial copyright expires at 50 years but if its something that is a proprietory publicati...

12 volt change 420

I have few questions.

When I bought my 420 it had a 12 volt "conversion".

I have 475 amp battery, a one wire alternator.

If I replace the coil what coil should I use and what resistor?

When I measure volts before and after the resistor on the rig it's the same about 12.07.

Running like a champ.

So I went in and adjusted the governor linkage. It went from dying when I pushed the lever up to running at what looks like about 550-575 in low idle and sounds really good. The high idle is just at 2000 and after adjusting the carb just a bit the baby sounds really good. The timing was way off so I...

1957 420C - Governor Question

When I'm setting the engine idle the throttle all the way left kills the crawler and all the way right only goes to 1900rpm on the tach. When I adjust the throttle at the carb manuall I can get it to over 2000 without any issues. Do I just need to adjust the linkage at the Governor to get it right? ...

PTO Overrun

Since the PTO is tied through the transmission on the 420, should I get a PTO overun device to make sure it doesn't cause problems using a rotary mower? I know that I can just pull the steering clutches back but what y'all think about this? How do I know if I have the continuous running PTO or not? ...

This is the 3 Point working -

I installed a switch to go between the front and rear cylinders.

I just wanted to show how its working.

Brother Dave is my preacher who helped me with allot of the repairs.
