+1 to what Stan said. You'd be surprised how great a pop can doubles as shim stock

Paul, glad you got it all apart without too much trouble. I think my 440 manual says to rotate the final drive roughly 45 degrees or so and that will let it clear the track frame, it sounds like the other method suggested is easier. Upon assembly, I found it was easier to put the brake band on the d...

Correct there is nothing electric needed to make it run/keep it running. The switch on the lower left is your ignition/light switch. It's not very important on the diesel other than for the lights. I can't remember if I wired mine so the you have to have it in the ignition position to give power to ...

Don't let it intimidate you. I thought it was really simple. The large bearing on the axle shaft is somewhat fun to press all the way on that shaft.

Looks like a really lucky find. I can see a reverser lever there. Go easy with that starting fluid. If the engine is in decent shape you shouldn't even need any starting fluid. You shouldn't have to mess with priming it. The way that fuel system is, it will prime itself, and quickly. Good luck and k...

I got a good look at things today. mine has the swing out battery box where two batteries would sit. then further back toward the rear there is another tray where one more skinny battery would sit and connect in parallel to the other two in the swing out tray. The tag on the starter isn't in good en...

Hey shinnery, hopefully you'll see this. What is the battery configuration on these G1000's? It looks like mine should have three batteries. Two in parallel and not sure if the third is in series with the other two or parallel. My dad's father-in-law has a U-302 and he said his is two 6 volt batteri...

Yep you can find the deck but very pricey. $700+ I believe is what we paid for ours a year or two ago. That was from Deere though.

Thanks for all the info shinnery. I have my eye on a service manual on ebay right now. Lavoy is having trouble finding the radiator hoses so I'll try one of the places you mentioned.
I'm sure I"ll have more questions in the near future.

Shinnery how can you spot the cross center hydraulics? I'm really new to MM's. Do you know a good parts source? Something equivalent to Lavoy. The hour meter only shows 824 hours, but that seems low unless the tractor just had a really rough 824 hours. It looks like there's a lot of leaks and all th...

Nice write-up Stan. I have a 1010C parts catalog labeled PC727 (01Jul67) I also have a 440 ICD GM Diesel engine service manual that is SM2028 (01Apr59) I don't believe there is a diesel equivalent to the SM2023 that you mentioned. The diesel differences are somewhat covered in the SM2028. Operators ...

New yellow project

It's yellow but it's not JD. My brother and I were able to snag this G1000 over the weekend. It's been sitting in the shed up in the woods for 20+ years. We pulled it down the road to our Dad's house over the weekend where we can asses what needs done. I already noticed it needs new radiator hoses a...

I have been using the ratchet style binders for a while now. I was surprised to find that I can tighten a quality chain tight enough to break it. (the chain) That's usually the word of caution that I tell people is to be careful. I've seen quite a few "stretched" chains from someone over-tightening...
