If you are going to eliminate the reverser and go straight shaft, save the trouble, put it in forward, and take off the handle.

I'm still puzzled with the initial thread. Does it mean that the symptom disappeared when the lines were loosened one at a time or that it continued to misfire under that condition? If the symptom continued then the problem is probably not an injector.

The biggest problem you mentioned is the reverser IF it fails a pressure test. The speed of engagement is easily adjustable but if is slow because of clutch pack wear you are in for a big job. By all means, check the pressures before you use it much. If reverse does not fully disengage it loads the ...

Another hint. Back up the other end of the pin, or rather the link junction that it is in, with a 2 or 2.5" pipe about 8 feet long. Using a helper to put the pipe back in place after every hit saves time.

The only readily-apparent difference between my straight 350 and 350B is that the B shuts off by keyswitch and the straight (sold) shut off by pulling back the throttle. The long handles between your legs are the steering clutches. If, while moving, you pull both and stop then the steering clutches ...

Only three things are required for a diesel - fuel, compression, and timing. Timing is the least likely to fail. Do the basics.

When you pull the tranny cover first look at the shifter forks and make sure they show good alignment with the sliding gear slot (worn evenly). Also, using a bent welding rod, hook under the lower shaft in the tranny and see if there is vertical movement. The front bearings on that shaft like to spi...

Can you winch it on backwards with a chain dragging under the bucket, then drag it off with that chain?

If it snugged up on the drum (and not on the threads) then the setting should be the same on both sides. Either you ran out of thread or the linkage is worn. You do not have to take off the battery box and fender to remove the clutch. Break the track, remove the sprocket, and screw in 20" or so 1/2"...

Did you "tighten (the) brake band adjusting screw clockwise until snug, ending with screw on the flat portion of the lock and not in the detent position." before adjusting the brake set screw? (P. 140-5-3 of service manual). That should shorten the distance the screw goes in.

First check reverser pressure. The 1/8" vertical plug on the reverser should show about 95psi in either forward or reverse. If it does, then the reverser is probably good and the coupling broke (they do that). I have removed the tranny from the back by slacking the tracks instead of breaking them. u...

The throttle handle operates thru the governor. Giving a little throttle may push the carburetor to wide open. Those engines start better at idle, but you also may need to choke it if its cold. Sounds like your governor is working. Wet AROUND the plug is usually the rocker cover gasket. You should h...

Sounds like a vacuum leak on that cylinder, assuming it is a gasoline engine. There is less vacuum when the throttle opens.

Some of the 440's (that had reservoirs behind the grill) used nylon (or hard plastic) check balls in the control valve. When they wear they can plug the line. If they wear more they can get into the suction line of the pump and total it.
