420 shifter
I have a 420C,4speed.no reverser. I was making a path to drive utility vehicles on for fixing fence today and it locked in 2nd gear but the shifter lever felt like it was out of gear. I took the lid off and lined it all back up and it is "OK" for now. I was wondering what needs done to make it like ...

440ICD Starting
On the diesels I put a quart of kerosene with 5 gallon of diesel fuel, works well for me. But it only gets down around 0'F here. I have heard of truckers putting transmission fluid in the fuel to start em. It got down to 30 below here one time and being I'm an uneducated scientest and my tractor fue...

Rod bearing Question
I'vr made a lot af machine slides, which have a clearance of .002"(I don't know what clearance a crank bearing has). When any grease is applied class1 or 2 it will lock it up, because grease takes up about .0025". 10W oil takes up only .0005" so it will slide. My 2 cents worth.

First thing to do would be to get a service manual from John Deere. Most of the time when a tranny jumps out of gear its due to gear wear or bearing not to spec.

No, I haven't yet. Track Tensioner 420C
Non plated bolt with a cadium plated nuts. I am thinking about making some Brass nuts twice as long as a normal one. Also I talked to an old guy
that still runs a dozer for a living at 82 yrs and he said when you put them on clean and free of dirt they used to run candle wax on them.

I replaced the bolts on my 420 with a grade8 bolt I purchased from BigBolt.com . They worked well at first but after a couple trips through the barn yard they have became very rusted just like the ones I took out and very hard to move. Is there any good fix to this problem? Is there a cylinder type ...
