Thanks for the responses. I think it was in the 40's when I cranked it up after probably 10-12 weeks sitting in the field. I did let it run for maybe 20 minutes and the hydraulic light, which was on went off but not the transmission filter light. I changed the transmission filter and the light went ...

455G

Couple questions: 1) My transmission filter idiot light went on when I cranked it up after sitting idle in the field for a few month. Before I shut it down I had only run the machine about 40 hours since the transmission filter and fluid was changed. I changed the filter and the light went out but w...

I was referencing the muffler...for the turbo engine.

The dealer wanted about $350 but I found an aftermarket for $200.

I got a price on new idlers and it is inline with what you paid. Also I called the guy who will probably perform the work and he has that welding machine that builds up the idler wear surface so next week I will get the price for going that route. I had no intention of replacing the undercarriage so...

That is an interesting video and surely specialized machinery. I never would have expected it to be done that way since it appears the welded surface would not be smooth and the track chain would run rough around it. I assume they grind it down after welding? I actually would have thought they turne...

I think I have the chain, sprocket and roller thing figured out where they all will soon need to be replaced but am confused about the idlers and am trying to stick to a budget: I understood the idler tolerance is the distance between the low surface on the idler and the high surface. Apparently the...

Yea, I think this will be a Fall/Winter project and the cost seems inline with the prices I received for parts. Thanks for the sprocket advice. My track pads and tensioners are good so I expect I will change the track chain, rollers and sprocket. Is it possible to get the outer surface of the idler ...

JD 455G Undercarriage

Purchased a 96 455G a few weeks ago and had figured I would do my farm project over the next year or so and then sell it. Well, after about 32 hours on it I can see the chances are slim to none this is leaving the farm. Anyway, I got a great price and knew the tracks were fairly worn which will work...

Thanks Tiger. Yep, I figured the first time I'd squeeze it a few times, move it around and see what affect it has then will get the right squeezes per .25 ratio and the rest will be routine maintenance. I'm not too far from WR. Relocated here about 5 years ago and went to work on the base the first ...

The manual says 2" (+- .25) sag between the sprocket and the center carrier roller which seems to be holding true after the first 10 hours of operation. I'm in central Georgia with mostly red clay and white Kaolin clay. From the 1860's through 1960 some of the property was mined to produce clay pipe...

I thought that was my idea:) I have a Kubota w/ loader and have been using it for scaffold on the farm for the past few years. I strap a 20 walkboard across the bucket and use it for painting, siding etc. The seller delivered the 455 last night and I spent 8 hours today clearing. He even took it to ...

The big day finally came after more research than I care to admit to. I Bought the 1996 455G which is in excellent condition and will arrive on the farm this Saturday. The decision came down to choosing between the tractor being the hobby or clearing the land being the hobby and I just couldn't get ...

I appreciate the post and passed that info to the seller. I believe he did say what he sent was on the dashboard.

I expect it depends on the use and upkeep...but is 6000 hours typical for a 1996 machine? is this a point where any major maintenance or service work can be expected?

Thanks,
