Nice 440

Haven't been here for awhile---haven't had a chance to split my 440ICD yet to work on my blown reverser but something interesting happened yesterday.I'm delivering topsoil to a customer and I see some iron under a tarp, so I ask what's under it.He says a 310C JD hoe and then says he's got something ...

Now that I know for sure there's no taper,I'm convinced that it's simply a matter of 49 years of ugly rust preventing it from moving at all. I'll probably just leave it alone now--not worth any more trouble.

Frozen bucket pin

My one loader bucket hinge pin is not taking grease so I'm trying to pull her out to clean the grease passages.Even with extreme heat and banging,I can't get her to break loose.I presently have 20 ton of hydraulic force on her overnite as I write this.I'm trying to push her out towards the outside o...

I remember from years ago after having my 6-53 Detroit rebuilt, the rebuilder implored into me that all 2 stroke Jimmy Diesels need the 3104 B{now it's probably C or D} military spec series 3 oil only, straight weight only, not multi-viscosity.I believe he said something about needing an extremely low ...

Blower fan

After running my 440 in this July heat made me wonder--is there a bolt -on blower fan for the Jimmy diesel. The heat coming off that sucker fan is unreal---I'm actually sweating just sitting down.

I ALWAYS spray ether AFTER I crank the engine over 3-5 seconds or so.That way there's some lubrication cushion for that sudden quick combustion when she fires up.

I just threw a track off on Mon. Got her back together but in a previous post, mention was made of a bottom bleed hole on the hyd. adjusting cylinder.I was able to partially collapse the cylinder with the set screw out completely using a 4X4 squeezing between the idler and the back of the bucket. My c...

Gittin er dun

Well,so far so good using my 440 to traverse through some real soft marshy ground to place 2'' stone for a curtain drain.Taking it real easy, don't want to completely screw up the reverser on top of this remote mountain.Did manage to get too close to the real oozy, soft humus today and did a 1 sided ...

Toivo--I think I can explain what came out. There was app. 20 almost identical 1/4''-3/8'' rounded metal pieces, nothing else except a lot of metal dust when I put my magnet up in the drain hole.

That sounds like some savvy redneck engineering 440dozer.I was thinking of something like that for mine. Did eliminating the reverser have any ill effects on your tractor's performance? To clarify, some 440's did not come with a reverser, that is why there is a reverse in the tranny? And that's why Deer...
