Lavoy, As you and most of us know, there are crooks on both sides of the table. You have always been above board and more than willing to go the extra mile, not only with my request, but as I see you do for all others on this board. There is no doubt that your heart in the right place. If you make a...

That is a sweetgum stump with a smaller one attached to the side. It was about all the 440ICD wanted, but it pushed it like a champ!

Vic,
I agree that the first number must be a "4", not an "8". Also, there are differences in the 1960 models such as a center dash up and down throttle lever, vesus the left side dash swing up and down lever on the 1959 models.
Let us know what you found and if you purchase it. They are loads of fun.

Scott, I too shut two scammers down on eBay that had a 440 with 831 loader. One was in TX, the other in AZ. They had different pictures of the same crawler, but "old eagle eye" figured them out. EBay is attempting to try to minimize the scams but it is hard to do. Think about this, if Nigerians can ...

It is no secret to those in the know that live auctions will have "ghost" bidders sometimes. You see the auctioneer nodding and raising the bid, but for the life of you, you cannot see anyone that is bidding, other than the sucker that is about to pay too much. Online auctions have no real way to pr...

Cover plate for JD 50 Backhoe
I am looking for the cover plate that goes over the hydraulic controls on a JD 50 backhoe. It is the one in the center where the decals are placed. If you have one or know of one anywhere, please contact me. If you know of any bone yards where these old backhoes may be, that would help too.

Update on slobbering GM 2-53
The slobbering issue has about taken care of itself. In talking with an old Detroit Diesel mechanic, he says these are known to slobber, especially if allowed to idle very long or not run at top RPM and allowed to get up to running temps. When I got this unit, it was only running up to around 1,500 ...

Don, We can rule out long idle times as the culprit to the slobbering on mine. As soon as I read the manual I was cured of any extended idling of this engine. It said that the oil pressure would be around 5 PSI at idle, and it is better to restart than to idle as long as the engine is not hotter tha...

I changed the oil and filter about 6 weeks ago. It has not used enough oil to move down on the stick. I have 8-10 hours on it since the oil change. It does not appear to be oil, it is a black thick gunk, more like unburned fuel, or maybe sludge that had built up before I got it. When I got it, it wa...

Looks good but that is only the beginning with a crawler. Make them stand to anything they "say", they either get the receipts showing the parts used to rebuild the finals and such, or it is hear say. What I find interesting, and I am a beginner, is that the books say that a crawler with a 3 point w...

Maybe I should sart with a thermostat replacement? Is there an easy way to check it? The temp gauge comes up to around 170-180, but I have never had much confidence in those gauges, they are seldom calibrated close enough to be considered an accurate gauge. I have not adjusted the injector timing, c...

GM 2-53 slobber
My GM 2-53 is slobbering a little. I runs down the sides of the exhaust pipe and on to the block. I am sure it has done it since I had it, but I had the hood off and noticed it. Is this normal? Could it be because it sat up for awhile? I ran it for about 45 minutes yesterday and that is when I notic...

Kirk, You will get used to it in no time. Soon, you will be out there pushing and clearing and not even thinking about which lever to pull or which way to move your hydraulic levers for the blade. When everything is working properly, they are easier than a tractor in that if you are pushing straght ...
