You just need to thaw the earth around the track that is frozen to the ground- you could heat the ground with coals from a fire, one of those propane heaters or torches, or put up a tent around it and heat the inside of it. Worse case, the ground will thaw sometime. I'd recommend hot water, or a pr...

420 track adjustment

Hi: In advance of throwing a track (which I figure is bound to happen on the old girl, I ran my machine up onto a pair or 8"x 8" x 8' cants to get room to work (a pair of similarly sized pieces of fire wood near the first rolls and idler works as an alternative). I searched yard sales and junk (I me...

This the time of year when you appreciate the fans that suck rather than blow. Happy Holidays, and may everyone's crawler start on demand.

Numbers 6-8 are usually used on loaders; the others are usually used on dozers. As said elsewhere, the heavy weight of a loader make the other (grouser) track pads too aggressive and can put a lot of extra strain on the machine. The snow pads have the holes in them and let materials squeeze through ...

I would like to go the cheaper rout which might be the 2010 but i dont know how much work i would have to put into it. I would like to use either to skid trees and make roads on my property. along with brush clearing along my hay feilds so the bucket or blade is fine i would be ok with either. I'd ...

Have you swapped out the grease fitting? Sometimes the problem is there. Paul

Paul: Take a look at the link I've attached. If your pads aren't too worn and bent over, you can build them up using grouser stock and appropriate rod (7018 rod has been my choice). http://www.olofsfors.se/default.asp?id=2042 There are other manufacturers out there, I just chose one with some pictur...

Just my thoughts

I hope this comes across the way I'm visualizing it. When you move material, you are trying to establish a plane (grade) that extends along the tracks through the blade edge along the surface being prepared. If you establish this plane, and then extend it, you'll find that you will have a more consi...

Take a look in the "photos" tab on this site's home page to get an idea of which machine you have. Then try the link below to find a parts manual for your machine. Type in the model number where asked. good luck. Service manuals are available on line from a number of places. http://jdpc.deere.com/jd...

Thanks, I drained and flushed the transmission and refilled with the recommended JD oil during the summer; I didn't notice any change in whine. I'll be monitoring it (can't miss it), and go from there. I'll try isolating the noise better with a stethoscope so I can figure out which parts are causing...

420 transmission? whine

Hi: My 420 has a whine in the transmission/bell housing that sounds similar to that in the middle of the attached video. In that I don't hear this noise in other 420 crawlers, I'm wondering how concerned I should be. Thanks for any thoughts. Paul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeCBP27Xsvw&feature=re...

Swampy: Thanks for the feedback. The canopy is well designed and well made. Unlike other ROPS, this one channels the water off to the side and back so you don't get quite as wet when it's raining. I wondered if it was locally made or was a part of a logging package. I'm planning to run wires up the ...
