Haven't been on here in a while. Have 450B and needing to replace fanbelt. Have had machine a couple of years now and have done alot to it. As some may recall front got little bit hot so rebuilt everything from front cover forward. Easy to put belt on then. What is easiest way now without taking ha...

Re: my new 350 dozer

Someone on here posted a photo once of a jig they made by drilling a hole in a 2x6 (or two) and just clamped it on to the track to hold the punch.

I don't recall seeing it, but have you tried using a link belt instead of a rubber one? The link belts and great as they can be made different sizes and adjusted as needed - remove or add links. I'm definitely thinking about it. I did a search on here for how to get the fan belt off and I saw them ...

Been there, done that. First, there is a bleed screw on the top of your fuel filter assembly that you need to open up. If your machine has the round filters, there are two. One for each filter directly above the filter elements. I think it's a 1/2" hex or 16 point head (probably plastic). Just loose...

Also, the original pulley is 3.75" in diameter, but the delco pulley is 2.5" so that should be better since it will spin faster (and self-excite) for the low rpm engine. Now just as long as the alternator doesn't stick out too far that I can't get the engine side panel back on (I didn't think about...

Don't the 4276 engines have the oil filter mounted horizontally in the middle of the block? The engine in those photos sure looks like the 4219 in my 450.

Look to see if your motor has a elevated water pump on it .They sit up fairly high and are a fair size pump that is mounted higher on the engine front plate than a usual 4 cylinder Deere it should have dual thermostats as well .Digitup. robert said in another thread that the engine tag says JD4219T...

If it really is a 450B dozer with a 555 transmission, I would try first try to evaluate what modifications have been done to make it fit. You may be able to find a good used HLR transmission out of a 450 from a salvage yard cheaper that you can rebuild that 555 transmission. The big question is if i...

Re: missing ID tag

The shift gate indicates 3 forward speeds, and 3 revese speeds, with neutral in the middle. Starting to look like a 555A???? I don't know for sure, but I think that's probably the 3-forward,3-reverse powershift transmission that was used on the 550, 555, and 555A. On the other hand, it doesn't look...

If the center hole in the original pulley is to large you should be able to machine a bushing to make it work... I seem to recall that the GM alt has a spacer behind the pulley anyway... If the hole is too small of course you could bore it out... Yeah, the original pulley has a smaller shaft size, ...

Well, I got my new alternator in the mail. It looks like it will bolt up fine with some spacers, BUT the pulley it came with is for a narrow 1/2" V-belt. I tried swapping the pulley of my old alternator on to it, but it's a different shaft size. I guess I have to track down a new pulley for it now :(
