Slow but sure progress
I bought my 440ICD over three years ago with a known engine problem. One thing led to another and I had to keep putting off working on it. However over the last three years I have managed to pull the engine and have it rebuilt, locate a lot of missing parts and make plans for actually putting the cr...

440 diesel crawler battery
The gasl 440 crawlers had the battery mounted under the fuel tank just in front of the dash assembly. The diesel 440 crawlers had their battery originally mounted on the front of the left fender. The only reason I can come up with for doing so was the 12 volt battery for the diesel was larger than t...

Need sketch of lower radiator guard
I'm not sure why people do it but on my 440 diesel crawler ALL of the radiator baffles (guards) were missing. Apparently its to difficult to reinstall these protective devices after working on the crawler. Anyway, I'm hoping someone out there might have a late model 440 diesel crawler later than ser...

I have been planning on setting up a camera system in my shop and actually have all the equipment to do so. The only reason I haven't installed it yet is because we're moving to Kentucky later this year so I figured I'd wait until then. The main reason I plan on installing one is to allow my wife to...

Re: Manuals
I had thought about bidding on the 440ICD sales brochure but it passed me by early in the bidding. Would have been nice to look at just once!tuney443 wrote:Was just bidding on a pristine sales brochure for the 440ICD on Ebay, along with a diesel owner's manual---went for $61 and $51.

I think I've been confusing the issue. For some reason I got gear changes stuck in my head when in reality it's the the flanged axle shaft that was the issue. And you are correct the diesel parts manual shows the shaft change. Don't know why I became fixated on the gears  The problem with the ...

Lavoy, I find it interesting that John Deere never bothered to update the diesel crawler parts manual like the did the gas parts manual for the 440s. The parts book for the IC that I have reflects what you've said about the serial number change over. The good news for me is my crawler is later than ...

Do you know at what 440 serial number they started using the 1010 finals? I wish I did. I haven't pulled mine to see for sure they are the same as the 1010 but someone else I know for a fact has 1010 finals. My serial number is real late in the series so I'm making the assumption that I have 1010 f...

Late 440ICD finals
I'm sure this has probably been discussed before but it never registered with me. Recently it came to my attention that the later 440 crawlers (at least the diesel versions) used the same finals as were being installed in the 1010 crawlers. What makes it more confusing is these finals are not shown ...

Actually my response above was for Willy Wagon requesting information about parts that he might have!
I'm sorry to say I don't have any parts available for sale myself.

Ed, Brad Kahler on the site was going to have the #63 blade parts list available on CD but haven't heard anything from him lately. Hope everything is OK with him, hopefully just busy with other things. I have similar issues with my 63. Chuck Hi Chuck, I thought I had replied to you about the 63 par...

Thanks much for the information. Please excuse my almost total lack of knowledge about these things....I hope you don't mind my asking lots of questions as I come up to speed on my little dozer. So far I can tell you it is a two cylinder gas model 440 (haven't yet found out if it is a 440I or ICD o...

Re: manual
Brad....I just heard from Lavoy that what I was told was a 1010 crawler when I purchased it, is instead a 440. Soooo, I need service and/or other appropriate manuals for it. Can you tell me what all you might have that would be useful for me to work on my dozer and also what the costs are for the D...
