Re: JD450C radiator hoses, where to find formed hoses

jsal is right. The dealer price for the radiator hoses is not out of line to get the correct molded hoses. A 450C should have two oil coolers you should change hoses on while the radiator is out. The transmission oil cooler needs the hydraulic/oil rated hoses as jsal posted. Heater hose will fail if...

Re: 1010 crawler

Someone will correct this If I'm wrong. I believe a 440IC (gas) had the serial tag on the left side of the engine clutch housing. The serial number tag on the 440 ICD (diesel) was on the console below the dash, right in front of the operator. On the 1010s, the serial number tag was on the right side...

Re: 420C tracks - beginner question.

As Lavoy said the grouser leads. The wide part of the chain link leads, the two notches in the pad in front of the grouser should match the narrow end of the link ahead of the grouser. From a photo you posted, on your eastovershoe site, of the left track on the crawler having a com-a-long above the ...

Re: Poop. I think I'm boned.

Keep watch of Craigslist (maine and NH), Uncle Henry's, and Facebook Market Place (if you do Facebook). It seems like 420 parts crawlers appear quite often. Someone in Wellington has a steering clutch on Craigslist Heavy Equipment right now. Say they have some other parts, doesn't say anything about...

Re: Manual for 450 dozer

If you don't get the manuals from Lavoy or new from JD (they have a bookstore where you can buy them without going to the dealer https://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/ ), look for used originals. You are likely certain you have a straight 450, but be sure of your model and serial number as the manuals a...

This site has a dedicated picture server. You can read about it on the Message board Q&A and Announcements Board when you are logged in. You need to email Lavoy (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) and get a log in set up for that site. You can set up an album there to store pictures. Pictures stored there c...

Re: Oil on brake band and clutch disks

If you decide to replace them. check with Lavoy on the discs, he might have or be able to get those. I think those are easier replaced than relined. The brake band relining would be an viable option for it, Lavoy might have a source for that as well if you don't. He may be able to get the seals as w...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

450C Crawler serial number 226968 looks like it makes it a 1975 machine, by the serial number list on the FAQ Board. That would be likely if it was purchased in early 1976.

Re: JD755 Crawler Hydrostats

Welcome. I will start by saying I have no experience with the 755 hydrostatic drive. I have been around other hydrostatic systems and know proper and clean hydraulic fluid and filters are critical, so changing filters and cleaning any suction screens can't hurt. I would recommend you stay with the f...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

My quick answer is you need to go deeper and at least pull the liners and check the block. I think you should have .001" to .004" liner protrusion above the deck. If you are measuring .006" below the deck as it sets it is actually .007 to .010 low as I figure it. The liner should be even all around,...

Re: 1959 John Deere 440 clutch replaced, issues afterwards

Mark, First and foremost; do not write your crawler off as scrap without being certain that is in fact true. Nothing you have described thus far makes it scrap. Terminology can be a problem when describing things. I may be confused on some of your descriptions so; please try to use the commonly used...

Re: 450C Dozer 1974 Alternator Troubleshooting

Any parts store should be able to supply you with a Delco 10SI one wire alternator. See if they have one set up with a low turn on speed, those start charging at a lower engine rpm. The regular ones will start if you bring the rpms up, so low speed start isn't critical just handy. Also you may need ...

Re: 1959 John Deere 440 clutch replaced, issues afterwards

I may have missed it; but is yours a 440IC ,gasoline, or 440ICD ,diesel, not that it really makes a difference in the function of things. Do you have the proper John Deere manuals (Operator's and Service) for your machine? The levers you pull back on are steering levers, multifunction, not specifica...
