Re: JD350 thru JD350D Serial Numbers
You appear to have the loader serial number according to the straight 350 crawler info. Here is the note from the straight 350 parts catalog that applies to that. " *NOTE: SERIAL NUMBER PLATES ON JD350 CRAWLER LOADERS BEAR THE NUMBER 7350 AS A BASIC PREFIX PORTION OF THE SERIAL NUMBER. THIS IS NOT A...

Re: Another 450C Steering Clutches
B Town has a point. I see you joined years ago so you must have seen at least some of the posts relating to issues with the wrong decals on machines and or people not reading the serial numbers correctly. I will ask anyway just to be sure, have you confirmed your model by the serial number? As you k...

Re: 350 steering clutches
Here is the parts catalog page. Looks like lever and fork should move together. There is a roll/spring pin through both holding them to the shaft.

Re: Another 450C Steering Clutches
Just to be sure when you say you replaced the main clutch you are referring to the engine clutch and are now looking in the left steering clutch compartment, correct? The steering clutches are applied by oil pressure and when you pull on a steering lever it dumps the application oil releasing the cl...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old
They don't always come off easy, but you need to pop them off to make the adjustments. As for putting them back on I don't think they are needed so left them off, just make sure the locknuts are set. There are a number of posts about them on the crawler boards. I think some have put them back on, mo...

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Question
I think the pump on the unit should be fine at those dimensions as long as it doesn't loose fuel. I think you may want to look at having a check valve and a manual primer pump to help with bleeding after filter changes.

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements
I think most I've seen were plywood with cleats attached, one or two might have been thin cut boards. Using wood over the batteries makes sense if you think about it, lessen the risk of a short as it protects the positive battery terminals even if slid to one end of the battery box or the other. I t...

Re: Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements
I too believe that is an original. I remember seeing a number of crawlers with those over the batteries, even if the tool trays were missing. The parts book shows AT18737 as a plate, NLA. The drawing looks like this as well.

Re: 450B
It is good the pads and grousers look good, but the condition of the chains, rolls, idlers, and sprockets are more important in determining the amount of wear, life remaining, and how well the tracks will stay on, in my opinion. Is any grease visible around the adjuster on the track that is slack? T...

Re: 450B
D = 6410 outside blade T = John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works (build location) When you say the tracks look good, are you referring to how the pads and grousers look? I would expect the chains to be worn it the sprockets are worn. How close to the ends of the track frames are the idler brackets? Stan ...

Re: 450C crawler bucket cylinder steel line AT31954
Bruce has a good, commonly used fix. I've also seen brazing, TIG, or MIG used, depending on processes available and skill levels. As for getting a new tube, one way would be if you can find an industrial hydraulic shop that deals in process tubing such as used in mills, power plants, etc.; they shou...

Suppose the drive hung in and took the starter way, way overspeed? That will mess a starter up bad, in a hurry.

Re: You Would Think this was Simple...
Some oil burning heating systems do have excess fuel return lines, just not as common. You need one port for the fill pipe and the second will handle the vent, whistle and gauge using a combination unit like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Beckett-King-Fill-Alarm-and-Gauge-14525P/202312890?MERCH=RE...
