OK, shims did not increase the pressure so the pump is worn or you have a substantial leak in the HLR.
If the clutches in the HLR have been slipping for very long, it may have damaged them even if the initial problem may have been the pump.

It looks like your HL clutch disks are spinning. You can attempt to raise the pressure by adding shims under the relief valve. Make sure the filter is not plugged. If you cannot get the 145 psi, you either have a worn pump or are losing too much oil in the HLR. If you have the engine out, the first ...

Without removing the engine again, you might invest in or rent one of the fiber optic scopes. Remove the left foot rest and there is a plug where the HLR linkage can be adjusted. I have never attempted it but you may be able to insert the scope and examine the front face of the transmission case and...

Has anyone ever used a scope to check out hidden areas? I have a bore scope for my rifle barrels and they work great.

I would let all the oil drain out of the housing for a day or two and then operate the crawler on level ground for an hour or so and see if it loses more oil. If it does, it is not the seal on the transmission shaft. As far as I know, the souce of the oil has to be from the front of the transmission...

If you buy a manual, it is easy to follow and quite detailed. You will probably have about $2000 in parts plus the head rebuild. If you don't want to pull the engine and if the tractor is for hobby use, you could just drop the pan and replace the rod bearings liners and pistons. Deere sells a kit wi...

Scott, water was coming out of the exhaust. Water has to be getting into the head or cylinder. I think water in the oil is from broken rings. For your crawler to stop running, you had to have a LOT of water in the cylinder so I still think you have a hole in the sleeve. Crank the engine over and che...

It is not just an oring that can fail on the sleeve, the sleeve can actually have a hole in it. Deere has two sleeves that were in that engine. The one for a turbo had a thicker sleeve so I expect you have the non turbo sleeve. When I once overhauled a 450 loader, one of the sleeves was really close...

The batteries are in parallel and it is a 12v system. If you follow the cables on any system with two batteries, a parallel system will have the two negatives connected and the two positives connected. It just increases the CCA. I always just use one battery with the most CCA. If it is cold enough t...

Ok, good information. The pump sounds fine. As for the clutch, it is certainly prudent to replace the disk. As for the slipping, the clutch ALWAYS spins in the same direction. The reversing is done in the HLR. My guess as the the additional slippage in reverse would be the higher gear ratio in rever...
