Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I received it yesterday. It is much smaller than the white one I already stuck on. The new yellow one looks great and will be a stand by in case the bigger one does not do well long term. I should be back at it by tomorrow. My wife fed me some of the strongest garlic I have ever had from her garden....

Re: Catastrophic starter failure. 450C ...CAUTION graphic images

I just did the same on my starter. It was just to replace the jellied rubber grommet for the copper strap. I had no fiber junk. It almost looks like a mouse nest. In case you get bored. This place is amazing. I found some chrysler brushes that fit my 1980 snow plow pump motor brush holders perfectly...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

I am well on the way to success here Bruce. I still need to do the welds and holes for the padlock. But it is coming along. Do you want me to send it raw and unpainted? Or do you want me to paint it black? That alone will take several days for a complete cure. I use cerakote and it is not paint but ...

Re: 450C near death accident

First I am glad you are alive and despite being a slow process, that you are getting well. Your post was hard to read as both my wife and I sat and read it. I called her over. It was really a good thing to bring your story to light. For guys like me. I never thought I would be sitting in the seat of...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

Yes it has finally stopped the hard rain. I hope to get several parts cut today. Tune the edges and start bending. I am not super fast. But I try to make quality stuff. Bruce, Could you take a look at the post the lock is supposed to go through. And tell me if you have washers stacked on it? And how...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

The tach repairs worked. Between the urethane window glass adhesive sealant and the structural panel adhesive, its reassembled and sealed up. New glass and some very delicate touch up's. I did not fix the two little dents on the outer bezel. My wife started teasing me about putting it in a dozer sho...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

Well the patterns are done, adjusted and ready to transfer to the sheetmetal. If I could get a break in the rain, I can plasma cut the patterns out of metal. I had hoped to complete a structure outside last summer to do hot work like that. I was not able to get it done in time for winter. Making one...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Well juggling a couple projects and dealing with weather, flat tires etc is not allowing as much time as I prefer. But here is where I am at. I cut the JD tach open to try and clean the inside. It was super corroded. It has had water inside. Zinc plating corrosion (white powder) everywhere. I saw th...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

Thank you Bruce! I bought it and it is on the way. The one I received is white and feels very paper like. I wondered if it would hold up when I stuck it on. If it does not last. I will use goo gone and remove it to apply the new one you posted. Thank you. BTW, I have two of the three pattern panels ...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

I have the 16GA in the shop Bruce. Like kilohertz I have three feet of snow and now sheets of rain. I am trying to provide drainage through the ice and snow piles to prevent the shop from flooding. Our phone is also dead and has been for 4 days now. I should be able to make some progress mid week. J...

Re: Help removing/dismantling a 450C starter

Doing that on the machine won't go well later when it comes time to put it all back together. I recently removed my starter to take my engine out. The lower bolt was so frustrating. I pulled out 4 different wrenches and finally got it to start loose. They make S shaped box end wrenches. I used that ...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

I was thinking about a storage holder that could go up in the ROPS ceiling. Or where on a crawler it could be stowed that did not have ROPS. Not that I will get after that. But that's the kind of stuff I think about trying to go to sleep every night. I'm picking up a 4x4 sheet of 16 GA either ...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

So Bruce's vandalism cover showed up today. I am looking forward to duplicating it. I also cut open my tach for the 450C today. It was FILLED with white zinc corrosion. Powder everywhere. The gauge face is in excellent condition. My plan it to seal all the corrosion with a clear paint sealant to sto...

Re: JD450C third head gasket This is getting old

I can see the end of this project coming. Just had to comment on the beautiful resto on the crawler. My friend does complete restos on pre-war Rolls-Royce autos...7 firsts at Pebble Beach...I could see you doing that...and making the big bucks! I'd do that...  What an absolute jo...

Re: Vandalism guard and tool tray insert for the left box

Got home tonight and found a vandalism guard in my mailbox. :D Looks like you did some tin work Bruce. Not to bad at all for being crushed. I may tune it just a tad. So I measured it and it looks to be 16 GA metal or .062 thick. I only have 18 and 20 GA here. So I will need to pick up a half sheet d...
