When you are in there you will get a good sense of how things work but in a nut shell the multiple plate clutches were slipping this is what heats up the oil now look at the shaft seals and the piston seals DON'T MESS AROUND replace these they are cheap .And you don't want to go back in!! My fuel distributor says that you should not worry about this as low sulfur is no giant step .Just fuel up and go to it and the old motors should have some less smoke on throttle up .Digitup.

All you can do is set the adjustment that the clutch will release completely and work it some more if there is an area that you can work the hell out of it than do so .Make sure that the linkage is all working good and the other side should loosen as well. Good luck.Digitup.

I take it that it was the 4 speed that was the problem and it is just shift collars that can be the problem watch those things they can hit 2nd and 3rd at the same time if they get bad .The problem can be in the forks or the collars selectors .watch for loose slide shaft parts or lock bolts loose.Or...
