40c steering problem

I adjusted my right side steering/breaking. Backing out of the shop everything worked like it was new, however, going forward and pulling back on the right lever, I hear a groan in front of the transmission and the crawler wants to stop. Any ideas what is wrong?

It's still a 6 volt battery with positive ground.

40c mystery thing

There is some kind of electrical device on my 40c. It is on the right side of the motor toward the front and mounted below the generator. There are two wires on it and one goes to the coil. What is the name of this thing and what does it do?

Re: 40C right final drive

Yes, I'm sure it's mechanical. Winter is coming soon, so I'll put it in the shop, and tear it down. I had to work on the right final drive axle and put in a new bearing some years ago, so that's not a problem. I have a wood stove and plenty of wood. Any early suggestions about what I should look for...

40C right final drive

I have a 40c, and the right final drive housing had been cracked and welded up when I bought it. My problem is this, I can adjust the right steering lever and it will brake great, but only for about 45 minutes of hard work, then it needs to be adjusted again. What do you think is the problem?

Thanks.

6 volt change to 12 volt

Would like to change from 6 to 12 volt battery with negative ground on my 40C. Any good advice on how to do it?

40c generator

I need to remove my 40c generator. Do I need to remove the grill, or will the bolt slide out with the grill on the crawler? Looks like a tight fit.

Slow down the dozer means that when going up a hill and I pull on the left steering lever the machine will come to a stop. By the way, this is a 40C. When I first start using it, everything seems ok, but after an hour or two is when there is a problem.
