I have a 1946 JD model H and a 1949 JD model A that I could use the oil gauge off of. I guess I'll give it a try. I'll use the one off of the H. It's not as high off of the ground.

I just took the hood off of my International model H and that and the Super M won't work.

I don't have a master gauge. Maybe I'll have to take it to the JD dealership in town.

Thanks, Duke. It ended up looking like that was the only way to access it. I started to look at removing the loader, a frame and blade. Might be a good idea to invest in some 6 x 6s to drive up on. Does your service manual tell how many turns out the regulating plug should be? Any other information ...

I don't have a large nut with an allen bolt under my oil filter on the 40C motor. I wish that I did. I was wondering if I removed the three bolts holding the oil filter assembly on the block if I could access it. I noticed in the picture of the gasket that there is two open slots, one which will all...

High oil pressure

When I bought my 1955 JD 40C, the oil pressure and temp gauges didn't work. I bought new gauges through Steiner and the have the right replacement gauges. After installing them I started it up and the oil pressure is maxed out on high (actually past high). I changed the oil filter (AH 1082R) and the...

I don't have Firefox and I'm not sure what Photobucket is. When I transfer pictures from my digital camera, they go to My Photos. Then, I'll transfer them to Picasa. The pictures that I posted came from Picasa. I'm not sure why I wasn't able to provide individual links here. Picasa is nice because t...

Willy, how do you link pictures to this site? Picasa is where I store my pictures if that helps.

Saturday, I completed installing the new adjustment rods that I built on the right side. The master pin came out easily, and went back in easy. Even with the missing link, I'll be able to adjust the tracks because of the length that I figured that I'd need for the adjusting rods Today, I tried to re...

I have two pieces of heavy duty steel 36" long that I was thinking about using for the bottom rails. They were used to bolt railroad rails together. There are six 1" holes in each one that I could use hardened bolts in for any application that I came up with. Plus welding for extra strength. I love ...

Thank you for the picture, Willy. I was thinking about laying a hydraulic jack on its side with a home made jig to set the chain in. I wonder what tonnage jack that I would need to press the pins and bushings out of the 40C tracks. I have a machinist friend who could make any size diameter and lengt...

Pins and bushings

How hard is it to replace the pins and bushings? What tools would I need? Has anybody else tried this?

I'm really starting to consider replacing the pins and bushings now. Where would be the best place to buy these for the 40C?

I raised the blade, but there still was no room to work on tightening the nuts, John. What I ended up doing was cutting a 3/4" slot out of the end of a 12 point box end of a combination wrench, then cutting the box end off and welding the handle back on so the box end was at a 90º angle to the handl...

Yes, there is play in the track. I can't imagine what it would cost to replace all of the pins and bushings. For now, I'll just take the play out of the tracks and go from there. It won't be used hard, but I do want to use it. Later on, if it absolutely has to happen, I'll replace them. Do you know ...

Lavoy, I have 31 shoes on the track. Stamped on the idler is M2769T, which is oversized, correct? The bushings on the right side have no play and the idler spins easily. I haven't gotten to the left side yet. Thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate it.
