40C fluid level

Where is the oil check for the trans/diff on a 40C? I assume there is a plug to fill and check the fluid. Also are these 40s a positive ground 6 volt system? thanks, gregjo1948

Depends on blade, but 6,000 at the outside unless something is odd.

40C weight

I have to pick up a JD 40C dozer and wondered what it will weigh. I'm guessing 6000/7000lbs. thanks, gregjo1948

Re: 350B Final Drive Gearing

I've unstuck seized clutches {main & steering} by bumping into a tree or an other immoveable object. It was never mentioned if both tracks will spin or slip when pushing hard. Just picked up a 1715 4x4 Ford wheeled tractor for my nephew with the clutch stuck. Third time bumping into my 350B dozer's ...

I take my nasty radiators to a radiator repair shop. They'll soak and flush or replace the core.

Re: losing power 450c 1971

When you say "losing power", do you mean, the engine is laboring/lugging or the machine isn't pushing/pulling as well as it should as if the clutches may be slipping? Did you get in the swamp deep enough to get water/mud in the fuel? I'd start by changing the fuel filters and blowing back thru the f...

Re: 1963 1010 loader crawler transmission problem

STRANGE 1010 TRANNY story----The top right bolt had stripped out the housing threads and been replaced with a bolt and nut. Took me a while to figure out why it would jump out of 2nd gear but, found that the shifting fork was hitting the head of that bolt before it got fully into gear. I tried to tw...

Re: 550B tracks stop...after some run time

Is the fluid that's getting hot? I think if it is; I'd try changing the fluid and filter. Maybe the fluid thins out as it gets warm and keeps on warming until it gets too hot and thin to operate the machine. Not all dealers tell the truth in order to cover their ---.

I was thinking the bolts were hardened and would drill very difficult.

Re: Track bolt removal

I don't think you're going to have to heat it up so much that any damage will happen to the pad. Normally you'd heat the metal around the bolt but, I'd just put some heat to the bolt. By now you've probably mushroomed the bolt, like a rivet, and heating the surrounding metal won't expand it enough t...

Re: 350b brake band hanging up

Okay... Good point about the linkages. They do have a lot of pivot points that could bind up. So point taken. :D I hope you didn't think I was being a smart ass or anything. That certainly was not my intention. Sometimes I don't always get written down what I'm thinking and it comes off wrong. Nope...

Re: 350b brake band hanging up

Leonardt-- I didn't mean to imply that the power steering was applying the brake. I meant that , as you stated, there might be a linkage binding or adjustment issue that the power steering could be holding the brake in an actuated position.

Re: 350b brake band hanging up

Does this 350B have power steering? If so, it might be your problem. Does the machine work as it should after it sets and cools for a while?
