Re: Steering throw-out bearing

When you pull the lever, the cam it turns, is supposed to ride out on the balls and inserts (which act like ramps) located between the cam and the quill. With the cam fully back into the quill (balls centered in the cup of the inserts, you loosen the capscrew that is in the slot of the carrier and m...

Re: Pulling power 450c

On the flat with free rolling tracks on the CAT probably, if the 450C tracks can bite in and not slip, the the CAT tracks don't plow in. However 4 miles and uphill in places, I don't think you will have great success.

Good to hear you found it, and you are correct it is a 1980 unit number. Good luck.

Re: Pulling power 450c

It is possible, however there are many variables that come into play as to whether or not a 450C would pull a larger dozer in any given case. Are you looking to pull one or just asking in general? If you are looking at pulling one tell all the specifics about the dozer and terrain. If just asking in...

Re: 450C not moving

The other place 450s had the machine serial number tag located was on the front of the panel below the seat, about where it would be behind your right calf when setting in the seat. It also would have been held on with rivets/drive screws and would have the same two 1/8" holes in that panel as descr...

Re: 450C not moving

This is a picture of a late 350 showing a tag. The serial number tag on a 450C should be in the same location, front panel of the battery box. If you have two 1/8" holes about 3 to 4 inches apart in that area, the serial number to identify the machine with has been removed. http://jdcrawlers.lcent.c...

Re: 450C not moving

Welcome to the board, to bad you're starting this way. First thing the engine serial number is not the main serial number you need. There should be a tag on the front of the battery box, right where you would see it when you get on the operator's station, That is the crawler serial number which is m...

Re: oil pump lower idler gear adapter

I did a bit more digging on this and looked for a 350B service manual on line. I found one (pretty poor as I didn't want to buy it), but in a preview I can see it has basically the same notes in several places as the 2020 (4 cylinder) manual I have. To service the crank and main bearings, the engine...

Re: oil pump lower idler gear adapter

I'm not following you when you refer to things being mounted to the under carriage. Are you doing this "in frame" or do you have the engine out? Been years since I was inside one of those. On a 4 cylinder you have to pretty much strip the front of the engine to get enough off to remove the front mai...

Well the original poster, Mikesloud hasn't signed in since July 21, 2021; so we don't know if he ever found the problem with his crawler or not.

Southern tagged on to this post looking for an engine and hasn't posted since.

Re: Which winch fits JD350B?

You should be able to find several posts about fellows installing winches and what you have to check to see for internal drive line parts you need to add to your crawler to run the winch. You can also study the 350B parts catalog, it shows the 3315 winch and power shaft related to it. You 350B Techn...

Re: 555 Water pump

Welcome to the Board. For future reference posts about 350s and newer should be on the Late Models Board. This post will likely get moved over there when Lavoy or a moderator sees it. From looking at the parts catalogs, they are not the same. besides the 555 show's just one water pump and the 555g c...

Re: Which winch fits JD350B?

The 3320 (Manual control) was used on the 450, basically replaced by the 3325 (Power control {hydraulic pressure from a pump in the winch]). The 3315 is Power control. The mounting adapters (between the winch and crawler) for the 3315 and the 3320/3325 are different part numbers. The 3320 may fit an...

Re: steering clutch wont disengage

Paul and Buckhorn have given you correct info. I am guessing you don't have any manuals, which would explain adjusting the steering clutches and brakes. The 40C falls in with the older Ag tractors for JD manuals and because of that, you can actually download a pdf copy of the operator's manual, free...

I don't think having a bar across the links, under the snow hole, for a bolt would work well. The points of the sprockets come into that area.
