Re: jd420 pics

I pulled the head off of a Cat loader from the side. I shortened the legs all I could and extended the boom all I could. Put about 500 lbs of lead on the back for a counter wt. Wasn't sure the boom could stand it, but we made it.

Re: 420C Rubber Tracks?

I put new tracks on my U35 Kubota excavator last year. Cost just under $2000 delivered. I measured them to see if the old ones might to used. Not exactly a good measure but my 420 5 roller: taped front to back OA 94" and 26" dirt to top. Excavator: OA front to back 76" and 16" tall. Might be able to...

Re: jd420 pics

At least yours is all together. I bought one that was taken apart and left out in the weather for a couple of years. It's in my shed now on several pallets. I hope to get at it next year.

Re: 40c 4 roller track alignment

The string needs to be tight across both sides of the sprocket and idler. Then, if you put a nail under the string at the back of the sprocket and at the front of the idler, you should have an equal gap at both (sprocket & idler) on the side opposite of the nail. Any other way And the string might j...

Re: 40c 4 roller track alignment

Not something in the book, but tie a string on the back of the sprocket and pull it tight across the front idler. See if it shows an alignment problem.

Re: JD40c transmission problem

Sounds odd. If you push the clutch in just before it dies will it come right back up to speed? Will it start right back up if you push the clutch in? How long does it have to sit before it will repeat the start then bog. Just trying to eliminate if it's running out of fuel vs overloading. An almost ...

Re: JD40c transmission problem

Doe it run ok if you push the clutch in when it bogs down? (Meaning it is something beyond the clutch)

Cleaned the little screen where the fuel line attaches to the carb? Mine was nearly plugged.

Re: 440ic trans problems

Might try a long magnet to the bottom of the tranny case. See if there's any "extra parts". Something like bearing parts. You said it was "growling " in first but working when you got it.

Re: 440ic trans problems

He stated ALL other gears WORK in both directions. It isn't a clutch. Something from the engine side isn't engaging 1st gear. My guess is the drive gear for first isn't being moved into position. Which other speed is connected to that drive gear? It must be working there, so it isn't moving the othe...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question

If it only works one direction, depending on which way the hoses are connected, it's not the cylinders. It's either the control or hoses. Something is plugged in the non working direction\set of hoses. Valves not operating correctly. Might try disconnecting right at the valve to see if there's flow ...

Happy to hear it worked. It's nice when a problem is actually a "cheap fix" as opposed to a tear down.
