Thanks for all the help. I took the carb a part after sitting with the bowl full of fuel, and the float had fuel in it.
After installing a new float from Roberts Carb Repair for $30, I am back in business.

blades for 440ic
I am looking for information on blade attachments for a 440ic. I seems that the one I have mat not have a Deere attachment at all, but maybe one made by Holt. Does anyone know where I might find information on non-Deere attachments?

I just pulled the final drives out of my 440. both splines were wet with a small amount of gear oil. Is this normal, or does it indicate leaking seals? I also noticed on this site that seals are available but in a kit with bearings for $200. Is it recomended to replace bearings when replacing seals?...
