Re: Series One 420 Color Scheme

Hi, They were not a darker green. It just fades darker over time. The stripe came later, during the 20 series run. And it fades to white. The stripe is not paint. It's ink because they screenprinted it on. So are the letters and the 420 numbers. That made for quick drying. Screenprint the stripe, dr...

Re: 1975 350 Dozer leak

Hi, If you want to try a seal sweller, put in a little brake fluid. That is an old trick. Works great. For a bit. You will wind up with the leak again. Sooner rather than later. But it will allow you to finish a job. Most likely. My guess: A bearing is going. Shaft is a little wobbly. And so a Quick...

Re: button head grease gun couplers

Hi, Perhaps the bolt is packed with dirt and grease and you just can't see it. The grease gun head and the idler cap are made so you can't get it onto the button unless you first remove that one bolt. It has to be removed to provide a vent or pumping in grease will blow out the seal. So machining th...

Re: button head grease gun couplers

Hi, Only place on my 420c and 350C where it won't go on are the upper idlers. And that is by design. Because you have to remove a bolt to vent it. So they have these ridges to ensure you remove that bolt. Every other fitting works if I slide it on from the proper direction. I have never had a 1010 b...

Re: 1/2” chain & 9/16” pads

Hi,

Sounds like a lot of spacer rings to make up to me....

But that would be faster than drilling and tapping the holes....

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

Hi, That is the one I use on the 3/152. Has the spring loaded stop pin. I kinda figured it was the same for the earlier 4 cylinder engines. I had to get a different, larger diameter one for the 3/179. They changed the hole in the bell housing between 1978 and 2008. And the new one does not have the ...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

Hi, On turning the engine over by hand, I use the drive gear tool. Now, which one of those does your engine require? Deere has had several over the years. Anyway, one sticks it in the hole and uses a ratchet to crank it and a pin in the small hole to push into the hole in the flywheel for TDC. That ...

Hi,

Better yet, if you have or can borrow, a thermal imaging camera. See if there are any hot spots which indicate a coolant passage blockage.

Re: 1010c blade compatibility help

Hi,

I have a 350C sitting next to a 420c. And the 420c and the 1010 are very similar. I can tell you a blade, inside or outside mount, from a 350 is not going onto a 420. And so I am 99 percent sure the same applies to the 1010.

Re: jd440ic for sale..SOLD

Hi, I hardly ever use my crawlers. I sold the 350C to a friend last August. Haven't used the 420c since I got the 350C. I still haven't used the 420c since selling the 350C. I really ought to pass that one along as well. I fear that as soon as I do, I will really need it. Sigh. And I'm beginning to ...

Hi,

Yep. More paint prep. Boring to do, not to read about. But you had the best day this week: Fire In The Holes! Only way you get a better day than that with this tale is: When It Crawls Again! :)

Oh, and my parts guy reuses boxes too. I can see where that would scare the crap out of you.

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

Hi, CW shorthand for If I Remember Correctly. So, now you get to ask; What is CW? Ha! CW is what radio guys call the International Radiotelegraph Code. You might think of it as Morse Code, although there are differences between land wire line Morse and what is used on radio. CW stands for Continuous...

Re: 350 snow calk questions

Hi, I have only had dozers with the higher single grousers. They do tear the ground up a bit. The calks don't do anything worse. Just poke holes. Gravel isn't an issue but I stay off pavement unless I want it to become little bricks. I can see where the calks will matter more with low loader grouser...
