Pallet forks

Paul, Good to see you getting around to the fork project.Based on what I have oicked up chained to my blade you should have no issues with weight on the forks.I think the biggest issue will be getting the forks under your pallets without digging into the ground.since you don't have the ability tilt ...

Torque tube

The parts and service manuals are worth every penny you spend on them. These machines have no computers or fancy electronics but they have many parts that need to be understood to keep them functioning like they were intended.Do yourself a favor and get the literature and study them.It will save you...

Clutch slip

From the picture posted there seems to be no oil contamination. If you have the stack adjusted (clutch gauge) and the clutch slips you need a
new or rebuilt pressure plate.Lavoy has both gauge and pressure plates. JMHO,JimAnderson

Track link

You can vee out the crack and weld it with 7018.The links are forged
steel. If you can't do this you will need a link and access to a track press.
It can be welded!!! JimAnderson

New Crawler

The first thing you might want to consider about the two cylinder crawlers is that until the 440 all were designed for the agricultural market. As they evolved and other uses for them were contemplated things like cages and engine shielding were designed and offered. If these options are not on the m...

The 420 five roller has 35 pads. The 440c has 36.The 40c and 420c four rollers have 31 with the small front idler 32 with the standard front idler.
If you have 36 on a 420 then no wonder that you have no adjustment left.JimAnderson

Sixty years out ,multiple owners and creative repairs could be be the answer. The original idler is cast steel with a tapered steel insert on either side where the axle is installed. If this is not what you have then you could have any number of creative answers to getting one more year out of it.Luck...

Read what Stan says in the lower part of his post.Crawlers can be a huge money pit.Odds are you can never get your money out of one of these things even if someone gave you one for free.Take inventory of what the machine needs and figure double that amount in stuff you can't see on the surface.I hat...

reverser

Jaybird,
You say you didn't see anything when you pulled the plugs on the
reverser. If I understand you correctly are you sure the case has not been gutted. Most reversers by this time were replaced with a through shaft.
If that is the case then there is nothing to fix.Luck,JimAnderson

420 final

Paul, slide the final back in a little and remove the upper bearing quill. Remove the snap ring and wiggle the pinion gear out.The brake assembly can be left in the steering clutch housing and the final will have more than enough clearance to come out.If you save the pinion shim pack you can use them...

First the bottom rollers. No rebuild kit as such.Seals alone will be over $100 dollars for the pair.Roller used are available but can be iffy to obtain better than what you have.Shafts, and bushings for the roller are available from Deere but you need deep pockets.Lubed for life rollers from a JD 350 ...
