I tought it would be a good idea to post the related parts book pages here. That's an interesting observation from Lavoy. If we look in the book of the 420, M4002T-M3552T were installed between 100001-125000. We can see the bushing (43) and when it stopped being used (116145) as Lavoy said. Without ...

Re: New Member Introduction & 440IC
My second question is even more broad... how about a resource for tips & tricks & techniques of bulldozer operation? Driving and maneuvering the machine is no problem at all, and I have a very good appreciation for safety aspects, but what I am after is more along the lines of how best to approach ...

Hi Ziegler, I would say that when a final drive breaks, it will be obvious. I experienced that lately. Bearing(s) will come apart and rollers will jam between pinion and bull gear. The crawler steers on one side without warnings and BAD things happen. Be shure the side in problem will jam not roll f...

Hi notmeu I have 2 440. ''bull 2'' has the early transmission of 440's... so late 420's. Bull 1 has the newer model, different case number but it is the same if you look for bolting it to the reverser case and steering cases. Internal parts are different quite a bit (I compared 420 and 440 transmiss...

I am curious why they decommissioned the VAWT (vertical axis wind turbine). Was it only a test bed for the design? Hi Willyr, This one ran from 1987 to 1993. Hydro-Quebec and Lavalin built it. Lavalin operated it. There are a couple of pros and cons for each designs (vertical or horizontal axis). W...

Well, It happened! I had bull 2 running last week. Here's what it needed (for the drive train to work only): *Final Drives rebuilt (new bearings and seals, spline on the axle rebuilt) *Steering clutches: new fibers, steels, pressure plates, bearings *New Brake band linings *Transmission: replace inp...

Yes, I want to have it running before the snow arrives. I don't take any chances... I ordered an engine clutch kit from Lavoy. So If anything looks suspect in the clutch area it will be replaced. I remember one detail that catched my attention. When I tried to put the ''engine to transmission'' shaf...

Def. sounds like it was a job for you. I elected to put the "final drive to crossbar" brackets on the final drive (partly because the one that was still on I couldn't get off) and it all seemed to line itself up. The crossbar line things up, height wise and when the finals slid into the crossframes...

Well looks like you got some time off and had a few free days. Nice work getting it back together. Did you run into any issues putting the back end on? I bet those tranny bolts were somewhat tough to get to and tighten up. Did you try adjusting the linkage for the clutch pedal? Thanks Ben, Yes I ha...

So, It's almost running good. I didn't take as much pictures as I normally do but it's good to see a almost complete 440. I think I have a engine clutch issue because when I depress it it doesn't stop the drive train to rotate. I cannot put the lever into gears with the engine running... When it is ...
