Re: Straight 350 dozer PTO/Winch output cover

You can just remove the cover portion and then put the bolts back in. When we remove the driveshafts from machines we sell, we just make a cover to fit, takes about 30 minutes to remove the shaft, build a cover and install. We run the machine up on blocks at the back as the transmission oil level is...

Re: John Deere 350c loader to 6 way blade conversion

Done a few, mostly with dozer machines with the tractor portion beyond repair. To build a dozer from a loader you need the following - complete dozer assembly with mounts - dozer hydraulic tank with control valve. You can use the loader valve but not as nice, makes it feel like your running a case o...

Re: John Deere 450

The free play on the steering clutch most likely needs adjustment. As the discs wear, free play decreases.

Adjustment of the pressure plate is normally only done when clutch is removed from the tractor. This is where the tool comes into play.

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

For a 350 the bolts that hold the reverser to the frame are always a problem. In your case with a 450, it would the the bell housing bolts to frame.

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

On my own personal 350C I had the local machine shop build oversized bushings as the vertical mounting holes were showing some wear. From there I ground the bottom side of the bushings until I had a snug fit. The majority of frame problems on 350 and 450 Crawlers is a result of loose front cross mem...

Re: JD 440 icd Crawler engine stuck?

Injectors can stick closed on a Detroit. Pull the valve cover and see if the injector plunger can be pushed down, along with moving the fuel rack. Plenty of Fluid Film gets these unstuck for us. Whenever we get a Detroit in that we haven’t seen running with do this, plus put a set of large vice grip...

Re: 555g grouser pads

The cross members are welded to the main frame. Only option would be to flip the sprockets so they dish outwards then build weld on extensions to the current cross members. Would result in the machine being nose high and would need to be built heavy. Have a 455G and thought about doing this in the p...

Re: Which winch fits JD350B?

350 and 450 are different, 350’s have an offset input shaft, 450 is center. I have one listed for sale on Facebook if you interested, John Deere Dozers and parts group. I might be closer shipping wise as I’m in Alberta. It’s on a machine now and working well. It’s the latest model, which is easier t...

Re: 450C S#316652

Some of us live in locations where pulling a trailer with a 350 Dozer on it requires federal carrier registration. I’m headed there tomorrow, crossing over into NWJD’s province, with $138 of permits in hand and a log book. That is the kind of trailer i’m Looking for. 17.5 rubber and 10k axles for be...

Re: 450E Transmission

You have to pull the engine and the bell housing to get it. We normally remove the loader or dozer, plus fuel tank and side boxes. You will find the E series machines have a heavier transmission case which makes it very difficult to get enough clearance to get the shafts out. Last one we did involve...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

I did not know if the covers swap over, there is a good chance. I have the benefit of sheds full of parts and a 75 year old dad who does the majority of the engine and component rebuilds. We just did a 350B dozer, full strip including undercarriage. Only thing not touched was the rear end / transmis...

Re: power beyond hydraulics

Another option is to add a valve segment and additional control handle vs another valve. You could also use a diverter valve on your valves third function. You don’t need big flow for the grapple or 3 point hitch. I would stick with large sized plumbing as you have a loader machine and the higher vo...

Re: power beyond hydraulics

The power beyond fitting which screws into the valve shuts of the normal return flow back to the tank ( thru the valve) and sends it beyond the valve and which then must be returned to the tank. This way you can plumb another valve in line, such as the valve bank on a backhoe. The external return mu...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

When looking from the outside above the sprocket and track, B and earlier have a triangular cover which is removed to adjust the brakes. A C model has a large pipe plug. C also has a steering valve on top of the rear end. The TD8E will out work most 450’s up to a G series. Lots of power and heavy. E...
