Will try opening the load jet an additional half turn and see if that helps.
I don't think there are an fuel restrictions, but will check that out again as well.
Did not think about the advance weights... will have to check!
Thanks!!

440I Lack of Power

440I - Tractor runs great both at slow idle and fast idle sitting in the shop. When I take it out for a "field trip" it runs good on level ground, but wants to fall on it's face coming up a modest hill in second gear. It will make it up the hill, but not easily or smoothly. I had points and condense...

136,868 is the end of 420 production.
139,999 on up is for the 430 crawlers, if memory serves me correctly the manifold on the 430's are offset to the rear and the exhaust pipe will not line up with the hole in the hood of a 420.

I hope I am ok on this now. One of the shims M4228T is still available from Deere and I was able to get the diameter dimension off their website. I had the T&D shop at work make me a pad & shims and I spoke with a guy from Ohio who told me that the pad is only held in place by pressure from the rack...

440I Power Steering Question

Anyone familiar with the power steering on a 440I tractor? When I purchased the tractor I noticed that it had a small catch in the steering when turning. I disassembled the power steering today and noticed that according to the service manual there appears to be a thrust pad missing and I can see wh...

Interesting Find...

I was cleaning the cylinder head from the 440I today and when I moved it around I kept hearing something rattling around. After searching around I found these two items in the water jacket. They are cast iron & the larger one is about 4" long. No idea what they are, leftovers from manufacturing??? h...

Correction to my previous post... When I got home tonight I decided double checked my linkage adjustment, since I had not actually gotten a tape measure out and taken the time to set it per the manual, shame on me. The 440 service manual says free play should be 1". When I checked mine I was ...

That may be correct. The reason I brought it up is because with the worn out flywheel, pressure plate and driven disc the clutch pedal linkage was adjusted to be as short as it could be to compensate. After adjusting the linkage I have about 1 1/2" to 2" of free play, then about 2" of travel before ...

JT, Here is a picture from the 420 service manual of the pressure plate showing the cushion tabs and a picture looking down into the starter hole at cushion tabs my pressure plate. Lavoy, Another question, maybe a stupid one, but I'll ask anyway. When clutch pedal is depressed, what stops the travel...

It is an old pressure plate out of a parts MC, but it is in almost new condition. I have not decided what I am going to do just yet. I must admit, the wording "utmost importance" from the service manual worries me.

How much is the non-cushioned pressure plate?

Thanks - Dave

While reading through the clutch section of 420 service manual I came across the following statement: "It is of the utmost importance that pressure plate with cushion springs be used with solid hub-type driven disk. Similarly, pressure plate without cushion springs must be used with cushion-type dri...

Yes, I have an adjustment tool I purchased from Lavoy. Another question just out of curiosity... Can anyone tell me what the difference is between an MC flywheel and pressure plate vs. a 440 (wheel tractor) flywheel and pressure plate? The reason I ask is because I have a very nice MC flywheel and p...
