cpjd450b, you had BBCode disabled in your profile. I re-enabled it. If you truly want it turned off, you can click the Profile button at the top of the page here and turn it back off. If you do, none of the BBCode scripting will run and you won't see anything but the code someone has posted in their...

Ah. Yeah, mine is a 4 roller, no track return roller.

This is the greasegun I picked up:

John Deere Corn Head grease goes by the part number AN102562.

Well it should go without saying, but if you have leaking cylinders on your crawler, get them fixed! I think I spent a grand total of $13 in parts and my 40C has been transformed into a tractor that can actually grade well! I flushed all the hydraulic fluid out by running the hoses for the cylinders...

Lavoy, does this "long bolt" apply to 40C's? I didn't see anything like that on the front idler other than the shaft nut on one end and the buttonhead grease zerk on the other, and what looked like a small setscrew and nut that I assume keeps the idler axle from spinning. Greased everything well tod...

JDcrawlers live chat

I'm interested in seeing if you folks would be interested in a chat page just for JD Crawlers members. I've set up a page at http://www.arsntmojo.com/cgi-bin/jd_cgiirc/irc.cgi (just a temporary domain) When you go to the link, put in your messageboard login name in the Nickname field, and click Logi...

So what is the difference between regular zerk's and the button-head fittings (I know what each looks like)? Just how robust the button-head ones might be if hit by rocks and such?

How much grease on track rollers and front idler

I finally found a couple tubes of JD corn head grease and picked up a good quality Lincoln Automotive pistol grip-type grease gun (full size, not one of the compact ones). So as to not damage whatever remains of the roller seals, care to hazard a guess as to how many pumps of grease I should shoot i...

After pulling one of the cylinders apart, this is what I found: http://www.ttyr2.com/web-images/albums/tractors/cylinder-piston.jpg The seal doesn't even stick out past the piston surface and the two backing rings are completely missing. $10 worth of seals per cylinder should hopefully have the cyli...

Well after wrestling with the blade on my 40C, we finally pulled the cylinders off. When holding a cylinder so the piston rod is pointing up, it will drop on it's own very fast so I think the seals are TOTALLY shot. They are a pair of old Duke cylinders. Hopefully I can find seals locally.

Blade leakdown on 40C

The #76 blade on my 40C (yeah...wrong blade, should have a #61) leaks down fairly quickly, in about 7 ~ 10 seconds. Occasionally it will stay clear up. Would that indicate a worn valve assembly vs. worn/damaged cylinder seals? I loaned it to the previous owner for a couple of weeks and he commented ...

If the injection pump timing is off, could that cause it not to run smoothly? Or is the timing adjustable?
