Well said! I don't care how experienced you are, moving levers out of the cab seems to make them do the opposite of what you'd think they should do. At least it has in the couple times I foolishly tried to move the blade or inch a hydro transmission "just a little bit".

Oil bath air cleaner oil

The origional manual for my 40C says to use 10w oil in the air cleaner. NAPA guy said 30w should be fine (as that's the lowest weight he stocks). What do you think?

Trouble digging in with my 40C

I spent two evenings pulling three diseased apple trees out of our front yard. My 40C (with #76 blade) really had a hell of a time cutting through the sod and top layer of soil. Once I got through that, it'd start rolling soil out nicely. I'm not sure what normal digging capabilities should be with ...

On my 40C, even at sub-zero temperatures, I give it just a little throttle, hit the starter with the clutch in (less drag), and pull the choke out for just a second (literally) and it'll light right off. When it's above 50deg F out, she doesn't need any choke at all.

Fred, check out this topic: http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=45 It talks about how to upload your photo to a server the board runs and then link to your pictures. The link you posted is off of your computer and you can't host pictures that way unless you run your own web server...

My 40C never backfires through the carb, ever. If you're sure the points/condenser and sparkplugs are all good, I'd start looking at the carb.

Would the bent steering lever indicate that this was origionally a loader version and someone converted it to a pipelayer?

If you get the weld area clean, MIG would work fine. Be sure to run plenty of amperage and get good penetration.

ICQ and AIM are online IM or instant messaging clients. Other examples are MSN IM, Trillian, etc. They are small programs that let you "chat" by typing text to talk to other people in real-time, vs. posting to a messageboard such as this. I personally use MSN IM frequently to talk to other system ad...

Great looking tractor, though the tracks look like they need some adjustment. My 40C had saggy tracks like that when I first brought it home.

440, minor note. Most folks on the internet see typing in all caps as shouting. Typing in normal text is also easier to read.

have you tried good sharp cobalt bits? Might give them a whirl. I've used them to drill allenhead bolts for safety wire and the cobalt bits go right through. Use plenty of cutting oil (WD40 works fine). You might take it in a couple of steps too, going to a larger bit size each time.

If you have access to a good backhoe, that'd be the easiest way by far. The power from the bucket curl alone would tear out a lot of roots. Then use the dozer to push the stumps around.
