Re: A couple 440 Questions...

Tks for the response Pop Pop... I have 3 machines, 1 complete and 2 pretty complete.. so I have 30 rollers to choose from. 2 machines have the outer style blade assembly and the one's under carriage is much less "worked on" than the others., but both are missing that limiting bar. Guess I should be ...

A couple 440 Questions...

G'Day all... I have a couple of questions regarding the 440 1/What is the allowable depth/height of the bottom roller(s) side flange, and can they be turned down on a lathe ? 2/ On the outer mounted style blade, I'm missing the guide or limiting rod that parallels the hyd cyl. What length are they a...

440 ic Resto

So Im finally getting around to restoring my 440ic. Having 3 of them, I should have more than enough parts to build me a good example. The last machine I bought came from one of our members here who had given up on his dream. So I eneded up with a partially restored machine... rebuilt engine and box...

I believe this is the part number I installed on my 420. http://www.jegs.com/i/Pertronix/751/1123/10002/-1

The pertonix part number is 1123 for a negative ground system. It’s been running perfect for years on my 420.
Tks for the info.. greatly appreciated...

Re:

Oh I don't know, first thing I do with anything I restore for myself is put it in the dirt, that's what they are for. Nothing more fun that playing with a "new" 50 year old crawler after you spent months (years) rebuilding it. Lavoy exactly Lavoy... after I restore my 440... I'll only use it in cle...

Re: 6 volt change to 12 volt

I decided to install the Pertronix Igniter, and the 12 volt Flamethrower I had ordered while back in MA. Voila. Just curious.. was it just a standard Pertronix igniter you used... or is there a specific one? I've installed one in my 71 Corvette.. and don't miss fiddling with dwell and all that goes...

Re: how to paint a crawler

You will save on yellow paint if you prime it then put a coat or two of ivory off white paint down before painting it yellow. Then 3 coats of yellow will work instead of 9 see thru coats of yellow  when spray painting with automotive paint. That's what my new paint supplier got me to do. And ...

Re: how to paint a crawler

I read JD paint can and they recommends their thinner.. though I don't remember the mention of primers.. I'm not sure if the colour I'm seeing is a primer on the frame rail or if it was a repaint.. but it's kinda the same green that's inside the pinion/diff case...(440) why I thought maybe a a prime...

Re: Early and Late 440 Final Drive Housing Interchangeability

I'm sorta in the same boat.. only I believe I have options since I have 3 machines now.. odd thing is, the one parts machine has early final housing, with later transmission. My latest machine is the older style and my runner has all newer... though my latest "parts" machine came with a new rebuilt ...

Re: My 1st Crawler - 440

Haven't forgot about doing my 440 up.. but I had the choice between it.. and another project I had for about4 years waiting in the wings.. so I tackled a 93 Chev step side truck so the wife & I each have 4x4's for winter. With that out of the way, my attention is now focused on the little 440. With ...
