Re: Ripper shank source?

It seems very odd, but Deere is competitive on certain items, mainly bearings/races and GET (ground engaging tools). Of course there are the other items that they are ridiculous on, it's almost as if they jack the price up if they know they are the only game in town or people don't do homework. The ...

Re: Ripper shank source?

You can still get them from Deere, T66192, about $102, just for the shank, about $150 by the time you buy the retainer, tooth and keeper.

Re: Need help ...not a crawler but excavator

Is the track slow in both directions? Most excavators use whats called a "straight travel" (not sure what Deere calls it). What normally happens is that pump #1 will do one track and pump #2 will do the other, when you travel and use 1 function it unevenly loads the pumps, because then you have each...

Re: Steering clutch valve 350C

Deere never thought of it, but its not a bad idea to seal the valve body to the transmission case with RTV or some type of gasket. That large gear is your ring gear inside the transmission. Just make sure the case and valve are free of paint and rust in the area before you bolt them together again. ...

Re: Reverser Pump and Steering?

Glad you found it. BTW there actually is no port per say, you have to tee into the lines going to/from the cooler. Not a bad job, you just need a piece of hose and a tee fitting with a barb fitting on the other end. I'd be curious to see what temperature the reverser runs at before and after you do ...

Re: Reverser Pump and Steering?

I know you said you have checked pressures, but have you checked the oil pressure going to the cooler? There is a regulating valve that controls flow through the cooler. To check you need to install a gauge in the supply line going to the cooler. The 2 on the left side that you had to disconnect to ...

Re: Steering Clutch 350C

The pressure tap is on your reverser control valve (under your floorplates, left side). Should be a 1/8" NPT pipe plug on the top of the housing right above the rotary valve. (You can see it on Jdparts.com under "HYDRAULIC REVERSER ACCUMULATOR HOUSING ASSEMBLY" if you need a clear picture) If the pr...

Re: Steering Clutch 350C

If you have a 350-C, you should see a 2 spool valve under your seat. This valve controls the oil to each steering clutch. Make sure its not leaking , or has loose or binding linkage between it and each lever. When you pull back roughly 1.5 to 2 inches each track should stop, pulling further back pas...

Re: 1970 350 crawler shift pattern

Just to clarify, reverse (in the transmission) can be found on 350-C machines. Typically is there when the machine has a winch drive or PTO option. It is to the forward left (directly above 2nd). To use a winch the reverser must be in forward,so if you need to use the winch and travel backwards the ...

If you pulled a filter out, then what you are draining is the reverser, the transmission is behind that. The washer you found is a thrust washer, it is located behind a gear on the rear clutch that meshes with the countershaft. Search your parts book for a T14465 and you can see the location. Teeth ...

As long as you have no gear/housing damage the pump is rebuildable. Problem is that is what tends to get damaged if they pump a bunch of cruddy oil. And as you said, the seals are NLA .The "good" news is complete pumps are actually still available from Deere. Depending on winch s/n there are 2 diffe...

I think the service manual has you pack both drum bearings, however the left side is more critical as it does not run in oil like the left side. I think any decent high temp ep grease should work as "winch grease" is NLA from Deere. I think the main thing they worry about is the grease melting and r...

It would seem as if your forward clutch has failed (like you mentioned) and now is stuck or sticking. Pressures should momentarily drop when shifted from N to R or F and then bounce back. The 40psi you have in forward indicates the piston seals are blown or the piston has over traveled. Since the F ...

As usual, see what Lavoy can get. Front idlers may be tricky. Just a thought, as an alternative you can have them built up and replace the bushings in them as long as the shell is not cracked or damaged. Our local Cat dealers still build up idlers on a regular basis. Take a look here http://www.jdcr...

Hour meter should be on the plate behind the gear shift that spans between they battery box and hydraulic tank.(or as you called it a kick-plate) Left hand side sitting in seat. The plate is actually in the one picture you took with the seat off. They are electrically operated off the key switch. I ...
