My first day as a JD mechanic

I spent my first afternoon as a JD service mechanic trying to service up my recent purchase of the 450c loader. It did not go as well as I hoped but it was not terrible either. I started by draining the Hydraulic reservoir. I was impressed to find the in tank element missing, I fished around in the ...

Thank you for the pictures, I think I have some 4" on hand. I'll get some brackets made and find some chain before I do my service work this weekend.

Thanks for the tips, I'll see what I can get done this weekend.

Speaking of blocking the loader up, anyone have pictures or measurement on the loader lock bar? It looks a little like a half cut piece of pipe to me that rest on the cyl rod.

Well I was wanting to pull the radiator and pressure wash it all out and clean it all up good. The oil cooler is really roughed up, I think the fins need some help, looks like at one point in it's life the fan must of gotten into it. I've got a tractor with a FEL so I'm hoping I could get it loose a...

Grille removal

What is the best way to remove the grille of a 450c Track loader? I down loaded the service manual and was a bit disappointed all it says is "remove". I know it is very heavy and I'm sure I can figure it out but there has to be some tips and tricks to make it easier, thought I would throw it out the...

After about 2 hours and half a can of PB blaster I got my throttle cable free. I have no brackets at all for my canopy, they took it all. After a few hours today doing some work I'm really starting to think I got a good machine. I noticed the gaskets had been replaced at the valve cover and the head...

More questions! Can someone take a picture of the battery box area? My loader is missing the battery disconnect switch and I'm not sure where it goes. My 450c does not have a turbo, could this be possible because it was the first year of the c's it's a1974 according to the serial number chart. I'm g...

I can see where they cut the rops brackets off with a torch. I couldn't get it home, it keep sliding down the ramps of the trailer. I'm getting someone with a lowboy equipment trailer to move it tomorrow. I'm definitely on the hunt for the cage and brackets. I've found a place wanting to sell me a c...

The tag says 450CA 208336T , which on the FAQ section appears to line up with a 74 450C.

I'll have the little crawler in hand tomorrow after we pick it up so I'll be able to start looking it over alot closer.

I spent some time doing more research, should I be worried that the serial tag is faked if it does not have the rops brackets? I've not found a 450C yet that does not, and all the literature shows them on. I understand someone might take the rops off but cutting the brackets off where it joins the l...

Just to be clear my post was a little vague, this is a loader machine.

By the serial number should be a 74, I do not think it has any mounts on it but they are not delivering it till Friday.

John Deere 450C

I've made a deal to purchase a John Deere 450c, the only bad thing is does not have any ROPS. I'm calling around a few places, does anyone know if a 450 straight blade dozer and a loader OROPS would inter change? If anyone has a good suggestion for places to look in around Missouri, I would apprecia...
