questions
I prefer Kroil Penetrating oil. If the track frames are out of line they need lined up. A string or straight 2x4 works well. I made a bracket that clamped to my drive sprocket and utilized a lazer pointer only to find the position of the front idler tension bolts has a definate affect on the alignme...

I made mine for my 420. I used SAE 4140 cut em out on a mill and heat treated to make them hard. Have worked well for me. If you make a glancing blow they throw some nice spark like the factory orignal did.

Frozen crawler
I was using my crawler in a muddy area and it was around 40'F. I parked it when done. Now the temps are below freezing and my crawlers tracks are frozen to the ground and itself. I was wondering how You guys that live farther north than me prevent this from happening ?

4140/4142
4140/42 Properly hardened and drawn is very tough, although if any welding was involved I wouldnt recommend it. I wouldn't use it in the annealed state it will crack when stresses are applied after installation. Probably JD used C1087 when they made it. 1087 is very widely used in farming equitment b...

Freeing up rusted bolts
If You can soak it in a bucket of water for 20 or 30 hours may help also I've used Coca-cola classic on rusted objects to free them. The water on the rust just softens it up and makes it plyable again and the cocacola has phosfuric acid in it. And if all else fails the Ole Blue wrench(oxy-acetelene ...

450 broken bolt
I am not familar with a 450 JD. However I am a Tool&Die Maker and have taken out several broken bolts. If a bolt was broken trying to loosen it an easyout won't work. If it was loose(head not being down to peice) and you cranked on it and it broke it is probably seized and it probably still won'tcom...
