420C backfires through carb?
Is it normal to have a slight pop from carb? I've done a complete tune and overhauled the carb. The timing is set right but I still get a slight pop from the carb at all speeds. I'm wondering if someone may have set the valves too tight? Any one else seen this problem?

I can't help you with the other questions but as far as the engine work, the water in the oil could be a pre-existing condition. (Before the injectors were replaced.) It could be a blown head gasket, cracked block or intercooler problem (if equiped). If the mechanic didn't bleed the air from the fue...

My 420 has one on the right side only. It appear to be a "stand-off" sleeve for the grille guard upper brace. I noticed that the frame moves at that point so the sleeve must have worn through the frame or someone just put a piece of pipe in there. I'm still finding loose bolts on mine but I'm busy r...

This may be a little late but I just finished a carb rebuild on my 420C. I've noticed there's differences in the carb kits. Some will contain the throttle shaft and some don't. Some will contain the low speed adjuster and some don't. Most contain the shaft seals but vary in material. The kit I got a...

I just noticed the "South Texas" part. I guess ice isn't a problem. Maybe they'll keep it from sliding sidewise...in the sand? Yeah, LOL... The only ice around here is in my glass and it melts before I get to the shade tree. The only reason I was concered was that I have "Street Cleats". Stan...

Source for Track Shoe Bolts?
Anyone have or know of a source for the thin-head bolts used on the track shoes? I know I can cut some down on the lathe but I think I may need more than I care to do that way. I guess I could use standard bolts but they look like they would stand up past the shoe. Is this a problem?

Would the bent steering lever indicate that this was origionally a loader version and someone converted it to a pipelayer? You could be right about that. There's an unused spool on the far right hand side. (Plugged output ports). The valve handle pivot doesn't have hardly any wear while the others ...

I checked there. There's a flat boss in the casting with what looks like two rivets but the plate is missing. :( The only plate I've found is on the Little Boomer. It says "420" with it's serial number 057. Any way to determine the age of the boom from that? I forgot to mention; It has a 5-speed wit...

My application to the club
I just picked this up yesterday. Trailered it home with a Chevy C10. What a "White Knuckle" ride! In my web search for info, I came across this great site and some info about the weight. I was under the impression that the crawler weighed around 6,000. I've trailered a Kubota loader/backhoe that was...
