I would go with what Scott found out, or if you have a Detroit shop near you, stop in, they may have what you want on hand in a different brand. In the old days, we ran a 200 series Mobil, but I doubt that anyone will recognize that number any more. A local gravel hauler ran a high detergent oil in ...

I would not run the Rotella T in a 2 stroke Detroit, they do not like high detergent oils, and from what I know, it can cause damage eventually. Reverser is John Deere Hy-Gard or equivalent. Transmission and final drives are GL5, weight is kind of up to you. Rollers are supposed to be track and roll...

Brad, Keensert is one of the brands of threaded insert like you are talking about, but there are others. Unfortunately in this case, the bad hole was a blind hole very close to the outside edge of the case so there was not enough meat there to do anything like that. If it had been on the other corne...

Here is a before pic of the transmission. Not pictured are most of the reverser parts, and some of the trans parts. The pile of boxes and bags is not even all the new parts required for assembly, there are several bearings, seals, and gaskets that will be here next week. There are also about half a ...

Hidden damage

Here is an example of what might be lurking in the "good original" crawler you are looking at. http://216.104.73.215/jdcrawlers/pictures/images/rich_b_crawler_001.jpg This a a pic of a carrier bearing that was in the 420 crawler I am restoring for a customer. Unfortunately, this is an example of wha...

I don't remember when that occured, it could be that all diesels had that, and the late gasses.

Diesels did not come out until 1959, so it has to be a 59 or 60.
Only other giveaway that I can think of is if it is center throttle, then it is a 1960.

There were a little over 1200 built I think, but most of them were converted back to lever steer due to problems keeping them adjusted and functioning. Just got an e-mail from the new owner, and he says the crawler is quite a bit rougher than it looked mechanically. Sounds like he has to do a lot of...

Gary,
If you strip it down, no front casting, manifold, water pump, etc.,, I think you could lighten that up by over 150lbs.

Jim, I bought an 8HP engine driven chipper once. Used it for 5 minutes and returned it, biggest piece of junk I ever used. I was trying to chip green brances less than 2" in diameter, and it was marginal at best. I think a PTO chipper with 3 times the HP and who knows how much more torque would work...

Larry, There is a snap ring that you need to take out first, then the "bearing" which is not really a bearing, but that is what they call it. Probably the easisest way to do that is just lift up on the shifter and wiggle. Be sure to check the little rivet that is in the front of the shifter tower an...

Check with your local Deere dealer, he may be a lot more competitive than you think.

That is what I wondered, no problem, it will bolt right on. You should be able to use your existing hyd system unless you are removing a loader and putting a blade on.
