Re: JD 350 Reverser Adjustment

Do a search for "john deere - parts catalog". I use Dogpile search engine. The search should give you a list, including the John Deere site, where you will continue as above.

Re: JD 350 Reverser Adjustment

Go to the parts book; http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servelet/com.deere.u90490. Enter the model (1010) and darken "exact model search" and click on "find". You want parts book number 0727, page 80, key 23B. Get 4 inches of 3/16 welding rod, bend it 3x1 and flatten the end of the 3 to a screwdriver shape...

Before tearing into the governor disconnect it from the carburetor, open the throttle butterfly forcefully, and see if it wants to stick there.

Usta have one just like it. Had to run it awhile in forward and reverse (in neutral) until the warped clutch plate warmed up. Worked for years. Even bogged in neutral until plate was warm.

Chase the threads first. Then put in a bolt through a 3/4" drive socket and pray a lot as you tighten it.

If it only does it in second follow Lavoy's advice first, and then take off the transmission cover, hook a bent welding rod around each shaft and try to raise it. Sounds like a spun out bearing along with some serious resistance in the left final drive.

Do you mean GRIND, as going from neutral to in-gear, or GROWL, as when in gear and trying to move?

Push the drive shaft out of the clutch and into the "differential" while the final is suspended. Then it will clear.

The fact that it runs if you add fuel usually says electrical is good. Alcohol in gas tends to stratify with time. Drain the carb when you shut down (or turn off fuel and run it until it quits).

Try Lavoy first. If he can't help then take it apart. You will see where the seizure is, either the bearing or the threads. The bearings are common items, but you may have to use a machine shop to make the special nut. Use "grade 8" if you have new male threads welded on.
